The London Lasers were a professional soccer team in London, Ontario, Canada that played in the original Canadian Soccer League in 1990 and 1992. History The London Lasers were founded in 1990 as an expansion franchise in the Canadian Soccer League. The club spent a great deal of money to secure out of town players for their debut season and had a crowd of approximately 2700 people for their opening match against the Toronto Blizzard. However, crowds quickly dwindled to sizes of 200, with many complimentary tickets given out, putting the club under tremendous financial strain, in which they were forced to trade many of their more expensive players to the Hamilton Steelers. They also played an exhibition match against London City of the National Soccer League for local bragging rights, winning by a score of 3–2. The Canadian Soccer League was a Division 1 professional soccer league that operated for six seasons between 1987 and 1992. It was a nationwide league that had teams in six provinces over the course of its history. It was the last top-division league in Canada until the Canadian Premier League began play in 2019. Nico Berg
Nicolas "Nico" Berg (born September 11, 1973) is a retired Canadian soccer midfielder. Player Club Played youth soccer with the Lynn Valley Falcons and was a member of the UBC Thunderbirds men's varsity soccer team. Berg played in the Canadian Soccer League in 1992 with the London Lasers. In 1993, he played in the Canadian National Soccer League with Winnipeg Fury. In 1994, Berg joined the Vancouver 86ers in the American Professional Soccer League. Berg did not play in 2000, but returned to the team in 2001. That season, the 86ers were renamed the Whitecamps. Brad Smith (soccer, Born 1965)
Brad Smith is a retired American soccer forward who played professionally in Germany and the United States, including the Major Indoor Soccer League, National Professional Soccer League and American Professional Soccer League. He never played for Rot-Weiss Essen nor BVL Remscheid. He played for Franz Sales Haus, Herne, Schoppingen, Marl, and Gottingen. The latter four being in the "Oberliga" (third division) at the time. Bryan Rosenfeld
Bryan Rosenfeld (born 19 September 1965) is a Canadian retired professional soccer player and former Head Coach of the Canadian U-17 Women national soccer team. Career Rosenfeld played club football for Hamilton Steelers, and Toronto Blizzard. In 1993, he joined the Toronto Rockets and played two seasons with the organization. Giuliano Oliviero (born February 26, 1974) is a Canadian former soccer midfielder and currently the head coach of the Milwaukee Wave in the Major Arena Soccer League. Boniface Okafor
Boniface Okafor (born January 15, 1966) is a Nigerian former football (soccer) player. Okafor attended the University of West Florida where he played soccer from 1988 to 1990. He was a 1990 NAIA Second Team All American. In 2007, Okafor was inducted into the Argonauts Hall of Fame. In 1990, he played for the London Lasers. In 1992, he signed with the Miami Freedom of the American Professional Soccer League. He played a handful of games before being waived on July 5, 1992. Peyvand Mossavat
Peyvand Mossavat (born August 17, 1970) is an Iranian-born Canadian former soccer player and coach who played in the Canadian Soccer League. Canadian National Soccer League, National Professional Soccer League, USL A-League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Playing career Mossavat began his professional career in 1990 being drafted by the Winnipeg Fury of the Canadian Soccer League. Steve Morris (born 2 November 1967) is a Scottish retired association football player and coach. Morris spent most of his career with the Milwaukee Wave of the National Professional Soccer League, but he also played in the USISL A-League and the first Major Indoor Soccer League. Jason De Vos
Jason Richard de Vos (born January 2, 1974) is a Canadian former professional soccer player who played as a central defender. An international for Canada, de Vos played in Canada and the United Kingdom – most notably with Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town.
