Lommel SK is a Belgian association football club based in the city of Lommel, Limburg, that competes in the Challenger Pro League. History The roots of the club date back to the 1920s when the club Vlug & Vrij Overpelt-Usines (Fast & Free Overpelt-Factories) was founded, registering as an official club with the Royal Belgian Football Association in 1927 to receive matricule 1064. The club dissolved in 1933 only to be re-established in 1937 as Vlug & Vrij Overpelt (Fast & Free Overpelt) with matricule 2554 and played at stadium ''De Leukens'' in Overpelt. It was commonly known as ''Overpelt Fabriek'' (Overpelt Factory), named after the Overpelt district in which the zinc factory was situated and was a club for the local factory workers. In 1954 the club reached the national football levels, that time at the fourth level of the Belgian football pyramid, and continued to the Belgian Third Division in 1957. Lommel
Lommel () is a municipality and a city in the Belgian province of Limburg. The Kempen city has about 34,000 inhabitants and is part of the electoral district and the judicial district Lommel Neerpelt. Besides residential town of Lommel also has a number of nature reserves, such as the nature reserve De Watering, the Lommel Sahara, and numerous forests and heathlands. Lommel is the third shopping city in Belgian Limburg with a commercial and shopping center ''De Singel''. Importantly, the silver sand that is mined here for the benefit of the glass industry. Some sand mining quarries are transformed into nature reserves and recreational areas, including Lommel Sahara. Stijn Wuytens
Stijn Wuytens (; born 8 October 1989) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Lommel in the Belgian First Division B. Club career Wuytens began his career at Genk, before being transferred to the PSV Eindhoven-youth division in 2001. Wuytens made his senior debut for PSV in the 2008 Johan Cruyff Shield match against Feyenoord Rotterdam. On 2 February 2009, he was loaned out to De Graafschap until the end of the season, before returning to PSV. On 12 June 2012, it was announced that he would switch to the Belgian team Beerschot for the next season. AZ In the winter break of the 2015–16 season, Wuytens transferred to AZ Alkmaar. Kristof Van Hout (born 9 February 1987) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Lommel. With a height of 2.08 m, he is considered one of the tallest footballers in history. 2016–17 Belgian First Division B
The 2016–17 season of the Belgian First Division B began in August 2016 and ended on 28 April 2017. It was the inaugural season of the First Division B following a change in league format from the old Belgian Second Division. The fixtures were announced on 23 June 2016. Although scoring most points overall, Lierse missed out on promotion as they came second in both the opening and closing tournament, leaving K.S.V. Roeselare and Antwerp to battle it out for promotion. Following thirteen years at the second level of Belgian football, Antwerp secured promotion on 11 March 2017. The 2010–11 season of the Belgian Second Division (also known as EXQI League for sponsorship reasons) started on Wednesday 18 August 2010 and finished in May 2011. Lierse S
Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring (), often simply known as Lierse, was a Belgian professional football club from the city of Lier in the Antwerp province. Lierse have won four championship titles and two Belgian Cups. Lierse was one of the six Belgian clubs to have played in the UEFA Champions League group stage, the other being Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Genk, Standard Liège and KAA Gent. The club was founded in 1906 and they first promoted to the first division in 1927–28.
