Founded in 1971 by Jawaharlal Darda, it is the largest read regional language newspaper in India with more than 18 million readers and the No. 1 Marathi newspaper in Maharashtra & Goa states. It is also available in E-Paper format. Primarily published in Marathi, it is also available in Hindi and English. The Hindi language version of the newspaper name published as Lokmat Samachar and the English version is named Lokmat Times. Broadcast news channel Lokmat extended its media business to television through a 50-50 joint venture with IBN18 Broadcast Limited. Rajendra Darda
Rajendra Jawaharlal Darda is the Editor-in-Chief of Lokmat Media Group, a well-known author and social worker. He was a three-time Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He was a Cabinet Minister for Education and Minister of Industries in the government of Maharashtra. Education After graduating from Nagpur University, Darda received his diploma from the Government Institute of Printing Technology, Mumbai. Darda also attended a two-year advanced course in Graphic Arts from the London College of Printing. Career Darda is editor-in-chief of the Lokmat newspaper group. Darda had also taught journalism courses at Nagpur University. Jawaharlal Darda
Jawaharlal Amolakchand Darda (2 July 1923 – 25 November 1997), known popularly as Babuji, was an Indian freedom fighter and a senior Indian National Congress politician. He was the founding editor of Lokmat group of newspapers (now Lokmat Media). He was a pioneering journalist and a prominent politician of his time. Career Darda began as a social worker and then, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, participated in the Satyagraha Movement in 1942 and joined the Quit India Movement, for which he was sentenced to jail for one year and 9 months. While in Jabalpur Jail he organized a youth conference on 10 August 1942. In 1944 he created Azad Hind Sena at Yavatmal. In 1973 he represented the Government of India at Copenhagen (Denmark) at an International Conference on Housing. The Marathi language has a long history of literature and culture. The first Marathi newspaper, '' Darpan'', was started on 6 January 1832 by Balshastri Jambhekar. The paper was bilingual fortnightly also published in English as '' The Bombay Darpan'' and stopped publishing in 1840. Founded in 1881 by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the daily '' Kesari'' was a prominent newspaper of the pre-Independence era with a large readership. The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) of India is a non-profit circulation-auditing organisation. It certifies and audits the circulations of major publications, including newspapers and magazines in India.
