Lligwy
Lligwy is an electoral ward on the northeast coast of Anglesey, Wales. It includes the communities Moelfre, Llaneugrad, Llanfair-Mathafarn-Eithaf (including the village of Benllech) and Pentraeth; and the electoral ward of Llanfihangel Tre'r Beirdd in the community of Llanddyfnan. Lligwy elects three county councillors to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Lligwy was created following the Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012, which created 11 multi-councillor wards from 40 single-councillor wards. Prior to this Lligwy was covered by the Moelfre ward and parts of the Brynteg, Llanbedrgoch, Llanddyfnan and Pentraeth county wards which each elected their own county councillor. Moelfre, Anglesey
Moelfre () is a village, a community and, until 2012, an electoral ward on the north-east coast of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. The community area covers the village and harbour, and several smaller, dispersed settlements. It includes six scheduled Iron Age hut groups and many other sites of archaeological interest. The harbour was formerly a local fishing port; a lifeboat station has been based here since 1854. Among many shipwrecks off the coast was that of the Royal Charter in 1859. Near the modernised lifeboat station is the RNLI Seawatch Centre. The coastline includes a rocky headland north of the village and a large sandy beach at Lligwy Bay, both traversed by the Anglesey Coastal Path. The 2011 census measured the village population as 710. It was estimated at 614 in 2019. The Isle of Anglesey County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn) is the local authority for the county of Anglesey, one of the principal areas of Wales. Since 2022 the council has 35 councillors who represent 11 multi-member electoral wards. History The first county council for Anglesey was created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888, which established elected county councils to take over the administrative functions of the quarter sessions. The original county council did not include "Isle of" in its name, simply being called "Anglesey County Council". Anglesey (; cy, (Ynys) Môn ) is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. It forms a principal area known as the Isle of Anglesey, that includes Holy Island across the narrow Cymyran Strait and some islets and skerries. Llanbedrgoch
Llanbedrgoch () is a hamlet and post town, a mile south of the town of Benllech and west of Red Wharf Bay, on the island of Anglesey ( cy, Ynys Môn), north Wales. The parish church is St Peter's Church, Llanbedrgoch, a Grade II* listed building that dates back to the 15th century. The historical settlements in the area have been subject of archaeological exploration. The village hosted the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1999. Brynteg, Anglesey
Brynteg () is a crossroads village and post town on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. It is part of the community of Llanfair-Mathafarn-Eithaf. Description Brynteg is located on the east of the island on the B5108 and B5110 roads due west of the coastal resort of Benllech. During October 2013 the residents of Brynteg were invited to vote for changing the name of the village to Rhosfawr. The results of this vote was 19 for the proposal and 34 against. In 2014, Brynteg was rated one of the most attractive postcode areas to live in Wales. Isle Of Anglesey Electoral Boundary Changes 2012
The Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012 reduced the numbers of electoral wards to the Isle of Anglesey County Council from 40 to 11. This led to the postponement of local government elections in the county by 12 months. The changes were confirmed by the Isle of Anglesey (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2012 in October 2012. The changes were based on proposals by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales, after a review was ordered by the Welsh Government's Minister for Social Justice and Local Government, Carl Sargeant, in March 2012. The Commission proposed replacing the 40 electoral wards, which had elected one county councillor each, with eleven multi-member wards electing 30 county councillors in total. Llanddyfnan
Llanddyfnan is a village and community in Anglesey, Wales, located north east of Llangefni, north west of Menai Bridge and west of Beaumaris. Description The community includes the villages of Capel Coch, Ceint, Llanddyfnan, Llangwyllog, Maenaddwyn, Mynydd Bodafon (also the name of the highest point of the main island of Anglesey), Talwrn, Llanfihangel Tre'r Beirdd and Tregaian, and at the 2001 census had a population of 1,027. The 2017 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, to the Isle of Anglesey County Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 United Kingdom local elections. All 30 council seats were up for election. The previous full election took place in 2013 and the following one in 2022. Overall results Following the election Plaid Cymru gained two additional seats overall to become the largest party with 14 councillors. The Independents, ruling the council prior to the election, were reduced to 13 councillors. Previous Independent Group leader, Ieuan Williams, stood down from this position prior to the election. Pentraeth
Pentraeth (; ) is a village and community on the island of Anglesey (''Ynys Môn''), North Wales, at . The Royal Mail postcode begins LL75. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 1,178. The village itself having a population of 557. Its Welsh name means ''at the end of (or head of) a beach'', and it is located near Traeth Coch (Red Wharf Bay). There is a small river, Afon Nodwydd which runs through it. The village's ancient name was ''Llanfair Betws Geraint''. In 1170 it was the site of a battle when Hywel ab Owain Gwynedd landed with an army raised in Ireland in an attempt to claim a share of the kingdom of Gwynedd following the death of his father Owain Gwynedd. He was defeated and killed here by the forces of his half-brothers Dafydd ab Owain Gwynedd and Rhodri.
