Llannon
Llannon is a small village, community and electoral ward in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is located on the A476 road south east of the county town, Carmarthen, between Tumble and Swiss Valley. The community of Llannon, contains Llannon village, Tumble and Cross Hands. The community is bordered by the communities of: Gorslas; Llandybie; Llanedi; Llangennech; Llanelli Rural; and Pontyberem, all being in Carmarthenshire. The community had a population of 5,270 as of the 2011 census. History and amenities Llannon has deep historical links with the Rebecca Riots and there is rumoured to be a secret passage under the main road running through the village. This passage was said to have been used by Oliver Cromwell and possibly the Rebecca Rioters as an escape route. The passage runs from the Red Lion public house to the parish church. 2022 Carmarthenshire County Council Election
The 2022 Carmarthenshire County Council election took place on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect 75 members to Carmarthenshire Council. On the same day, elections were held to the other 21 local authorities and to community councils in Wales as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. Plaid Cymru won a majority of seats for the first time, whilst losing their leader, Emlyn Dole. Welsh Labour regained some ground in Carmarthenshire by winning seats in the Amman Valley and Llanelli constituency from Plaid Cymru. New Independent lost one seat overall and their leader, Jeff Edmunds and the Conservatives' only Councillor, Shahana Najmi, also lost her seat. Despite winning a majority of seats, Plaid Cymru formed a coalition with eight Independent Councillors. Llanon
Llanon (also spelled Llan-non) is a village in Ceredigion, Wales. It adjoins the village of Llansantffraed on the coast of Cardigan Bay, north of Aberaeron and south of Aberystwyth on the A487 road. It is situated on a raised beach. The village is named after the church of Saint Non (''Llan-Non''), the mother of Saint David. By tradition, St David was born and brought up in Llanon. History The village prospered in the 18th and 19th centuries, with industries rooted in the land and on the sea. In 1861, shipbuilding employed 130 men out of a population of 1,300. It was at this period that much of the village was developed; several Nonconformist chapels and a school were built, and the village enjoyed a large range of shops and services including five pubs and a brewery, three blacksmiths, shoemakers, wheelwrights and a bakery. Carmarthenshire County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Gaerfyrddin) is the local authority for the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. Tumble, Carmarthenshire
Tumble ( cy, Tymbl), is a village situated south of Cross Hands near the towns of Carmarthen and Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Tumble, along with Cross Hands is part of the community of Llannon.Davies (2008), pg 503. The population, including Drefach was 4,302. History Tumble developed in the 19th century to house the anthracite miners who were employed at the nearby Dynant Fach and Great Mountain collieries. Tumble was once served by Tumble Railway Station, a station built on the Llanelly and Mynydd Mawr Railway to allow the transportation of coal from the local mines to Llanelli Docks. Sports and leisure Although a small village, Tumble is home to rugby union club Tumble RFC. Description Despite its name, Llanelli Rural covers large parts of the Llanelli urban area, including Bynea, Llwynhendy, Cefncaeau, Pemberton, Bryn, Cwmcarnhywel, Cwmbach, Cynheidre, Penygraig, Penceilogi, Dafen, Felinfoel, Swiss Valley, along with the villages of Pont-Henri, Pontiets, Pwll, and Five Roads, as well as a number of hamlets. Llangennech
Llangennech (()) is a village and community in the area of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales, which covers an area of . It is governed by Llangennech Community Council and Carmarthenshire County Council. Llangennech is also the name of the county electoral ward coterminous with the village. It falls in the Llanelli parliamentary and Senedd constituency. It lies in the Mid & West Wales region for regional Senedd members. Llangennech was a coal mining community, with several local collieries mining steam coal. There is also a large Labour tradition in the village originating with the mine workers. There was a large Royal Navy depot in the village, which was closed in 2007 in Ministry of Defence restructuring. Llanedi () is a village and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Once the name of a parish, Llanedi is now a community taking in the hamlet of Llanedi and the villages of Hendy, Fforest (suburbs of Pontarddulais) and Tycroes. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 5,664. The community is located between Ammanford and Llanelli. The community is bordered by the communities of: Llangennech; Llannon; Llandybie; Ammanford; and Betws, all being in Carmarthenshire, and by: Mawr; Pontarddulais; and Grovesend and Waungron, all in the City and County of Swansea. Llandybie ( cy, Llandybïe , " Saint Tybie's church") is a community which includes a large village of the same name situated north of Ammanford in Carmarthenshire, Wales. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, Llandybie village itself is home to a population of 3,800, while the community – which also includes the villages of Blaenau, Caerbryn, Capel Hendre, Cwmgwili, Pentregwenlais, Penybanc, Pen-y-groes, and Saron – has 8,800 inhabitants, increasing to 10,994 at the 2011 census. It was in Llandybie, in 1943, that the mineral Brammallite was found for the first time. Llandybie hosted the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1944. The village is served by Llandybie railway station on the Heart of Wales Line and the A483 road which is the main road. Pontyberem
Pontyberem () is a village and community situated in the Gwendraeth Valley halfway between Carmarthen and Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales. As of the 2001 Census, the population was recorded as 2,829, reducing to 2,768 at the 2011 Census. The community is bordered by the communities of: Llanddarog; Gorslas; Llannon; Llanelli Rural; and Llangyndeyrn, all being in Carmarthenshire. History The village grew during the late 19th century and early 20th century with the growth of the coal mining industry in the area. There were four principal mines in the Pontyberem Area; Pontyberem colliery which was opened in 1845, Pentremawr (1889–), Glynhebog (1892–1949) and Gwendraeth colliery (Watney pit). Cross Hands
Cross Hands is a town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, approximately from Carmarthen. Cross Hands Public Hall is one of only three of its kind in Wales. The Public Hall was erected in 1920 and designed by an unknown Italian designer in the classic Art Deco Style. Fully restored, the Public Hall has a fully functioning stage and cinema screen and is protected as a Grade 2 listed building. The continuous built up area which includes the villages of Cross Hands, Gorslas, Cefneithin and Pen-y-groes had a population of 5,717 in 2011. Cross hands is a growing residential and employment area and includes the established Cross Hands Food Park to the south west of the A48.
