Daisy Hellmann (1890-1977) was a Viennese art patron and collector persecuted by the Nazis because of her Jewish ancestry. Early life Daisy Hellmann (née Steiner b. in Vienna April 22, 1890 - 5 January 5, 1977), was a member of one of the most important families of art patrons in Vienna in the first quarter of the 20th century. Her father was Wilhelm Steiner and her mother Eugenie (Jenny) Steiner (Pulitzer). In her book, ''Was Einmal War'', Sophie Lillie describes the lives of the "assimilated, haut bourgeois Jewry of Austria between the wars , people who without exception were talented, successful members of the community". One of the individuals she describes is Daisy Hellmann. Daisy married Wilhelm (Willy) Hellmann of Vienna, a textile magnate. The Albertina is a museum in the Innere Stadt (First District) of Vienna, Austria. It houses one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world with approximately 65,000 drawings and approximately 1 million old master prints, as well as more modern graphic works, photographs and architectural drawings. The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts (German: ''Museum für angewandte Kunst'') is an arts and crafts museum located at Stubenring 5 in Vienna's 1st district Innere Stadt. The Österreichische Galerie Belvedere is a museum housed in the Belvedere (palace), Belvedere palace, in Vienna, Austria. Josef Morgenstern
Josef Morgenstern (born June 6, 1886 in Kis-Szlatina, Hungary; died after September 1942 in Auschwitz) was a Jewish art collector who was murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust. Early life Josef Morgenstern worked in the banking and tube industries in Vienna and Amsterdam from the 1920s. He studied political science at the University of Vienna, receiving his doctorate in 1928. Morgenstern was accepted as a supporting member of the Central Association of Architects in 1921. He married Alice (née Freund, born 1885 in Prag). In March 1922 the Morgensterns acquired a home at Apfelgasse 3, Vienna 4, furnished by architect Otto Bauer. Art collection The Morgenstern collected art. In the music room of their Vienna home hung the painting Vier Bäume (Four Trees) by Egon Schiele, which was to be shown at exhibitions in the Neue Galerie in Vienna and the Kunsthaus in Zurich in 1928 and 1930.
