Bosnia And Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina ( sh, / , ), abbreviated BiH () or B&H, sometimes called Bosnia–Herzegovina and often known informally as Bosnia, is a country at the crossroads of south and southeast Europe, located in the Balkans. Bosnia and Herzegovina borders Serbia to the east, Montenegro to the southeast, and Croatia to the north and southwest. In the south it has a narrow coast on the Adriatic Sea within the Mediterranean, which is about long and surrounds the town of Neum. Bosnia, which is the inland region of the country, has a moderate continental climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. Todor Švrakić (1882–1931) was a Bosnian painter. He was one of the early 20th century pioneers of Bosnian painting within the European style and is considered one of the Western Balkans' most notable watercolor artists. Nihad Hrustanbegovic
Nihad Hrustanbegović (born 7 June 1973) is a Bosnian-Dutch composer, accordionist and pianist from Amsterdam. He is considered to be one of the most prominent and successful solo concert accordion artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Netherlands. Music Education Nihad began his music education at 9 at the music school in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. At 15, he attended the Music College at the University of Tuzla, Between 1988 and 1991, Nihad won five prizes as accordionist at the Concurs for Music Students of Bosnia and former Yugoslavia, among them three prizes as soloist. In 1995 he continued his music education in the Netherlands at the College for Arts in Arnhem at the Messiaen Academy – a master of music performance program where he received training from Miny Dekkers and Gerie Daanen. Selman Selmanagić
Selman Selmanagić (25 April 1905 – 7 May 1986) was a Bosnian-German architect and long-time professor at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin who worked extensively for the government of East Germany. Biography Selmanagić was born in Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia, then administered by Austria-Hungary, and grew up from 1918 on in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter and his journeyman's examination, Selmanagić first worked as a carpenter in the wagon factory in Sarajevo in 1923-24 and in 1925, after a one-year visit to the Ljubljana School of Crafts, made his master's job as a construction and furniture carpenter. Ivan Ceresnjes (born 1945, Sarajevo), also known as Ivica Ceresnjes, is a Bosnian architect-researcher at the Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem specializing in the documentation of the Jewish architectural-cultural heritage in the former Yugoslavia and Eastern Europe. During the Bosnian War of 1992–1995 he served as the president of the Jewish community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and played a central role in the rescue and evacuation of thousands of Sarajevo residents. Ivan Štraus
Ivan Štraus (24 July 1928 – 24 August 2018) was a Bosnians, Bosnian architect. Life Born in 1928, in Kremna, Zlatibor county, Serbia, to a Slovenian father and mother from Herzegovina. He identified as a "Bosnian of Slovenian and Herzegovinian descent". Štraus grew up in Banja Luka. He started architectural studies in Zagreb in 1947 and graduated in 1958 from the Technology Faculty of the University of Sarajevo in the city of Sarajevo, where he taught as an assistant. From 1952 he began making deals for participating architectural Tendering, tenders, and from 1959 to 1961 and then from 1965 to 1984 he worked for the ''Arhitekt'' studio in Sarajevo. Since then he has won 30 major awards for architecture and has won many national and international tenders. Vesna Bugarski
Vesna Bugarski (2 May 1930 – 22 August 1992) was a Bosnian architect. She was Bosnia and Herzegovina's first ever female architect. Biography Bugarski was born in Sarajevo. After embarking on her studies in Belgrade where she was the only woman to study architecture, Bugarski graduated in Sarajevo in 1964 after an architecture department had opened there. Her first employment was with ''Prosperitet'', a planning and design firm in Sarajevo. She then worked in Denmark for several years, specializing in interior design, before returning to Sarajevo where she began weaving tapestries while continuing to design interiors for offices and apartments. In August 1992 during the Bosnian War, while walking home from the market in Sarajevo, she was killed by a grenade fired from the hills. Most of her work in Sarajevo was destroyed during the war. Selma Harrington
Selma Harrington née Arnautović is a Bosnian-Irish architect and designer. She holds a PhD Architecture from the University of Strathclyde and an MPhil European Studies from the Trinity College Dublin.
