Linz Open
The Linz Open, currently sponsored by Generali Gruppe, is a women's tennis tournament held in Linz, Austria. It is played on indoor hardcourts. The inaugural event took place in 1987 in Wels, Austria and was organized by the ITF as a $10,000 tournament. Starting 1991, it has been organized in Linz as a WTA Tour event, initially on the Tier V-level. In 1993 it got promoted to Tier III-level, and since 1998 it was organized as a Tier II-tournament. Since the 2009 edition it is designated as a WTA International Tournament. Past champions of the tournament include former world number ones Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Amélie Mauresmo, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic. More recent champions include Petra Kvitová, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, Karolína Plíšková and Dominika Cibulková. Linz ( , ; cs, Linec) is the capital of Upper Austria and third-largest city in Austria. In the north of the country, it is on the Danube south of the Czech border. Lindsay Ann Davenport Leach (born June 8, 1976) is an American former professional tennis player. Davenport was ranked singles world No. 1 for a total of 98 weeks, and was the year-end singles world No. 1 four times (1998, 2001, 2004, and 2005). She also held the doubles world No. 1 ranking for 32 weeks. Marion Maruska
Marion Maruska (born 15 December 1972) is an Austrian former tennis player. She turned professional in 1992 and reached her career-high singles ranking on October 6, 1997, when she became the No. 50 of the world. 1997 was Maruska's best year on the WTA Tour, highlighted by her first (and only) WTA title and another tour final amid a wave of inconsistent results. As the world No. 154, she won her debut WTA title at the ASB Classic held in Auckland, New Zealand. En route, she beat Anke Huber for her first top-ten win. Eva Švíglerová
Eva Švíglerová (born 13 July 1971) is a Czech former professional tennis player. She enjoyed success as a junior player, winning the 1989 Australian Open in girls' doubles, along with Andrea Strnadová. The two were also the finalists of the 1989 Wimbledon Championships. At this event, it was rumoured by some reporters that she played one match in the tournament without knickers. Barbara Paulus
Barbara Paulus (born 1 September 1970) is a former professional top-ten tennis player from Austria. She began playing on the WTA Tour in 1986 and retired in 2001. During her career, she won a total of seven WTA tournaments (six singles titles, one doubles title). Dominika Cibulková
Dominika Cibulková (; born 6 May 1989) is a Slovak former professional tennis player. She is the 2016 WTA Finals champion, becoming the fourth player (after Serena Williams in 2001, Maria Sharapova in 2004 and Petra Kvitová in 2011) to win the tournament on her debut.
