Life Cinematic
''Life Cinematic'' is a BBC television series of in-depth interviews with notable filmmakers, with clips from movies that have influenced them. With ''The Film Review'' and associated programs, ''Life Cinematic'' fills the gap left by the cancellation of the BBCs long-running '' Film...'' series in 2018. It is produced by Somethin’ Else and presented either by Edith Bowman or Robbie Collin, who give a brief résumé of the interviewee's career before conducting the interview. Edith Bowman
Edith Eleanor Smith (born January 1974) is a Scottish radio DJ and television presenter. She hosted '' Colin and Edith'', weekday afternoons, weekend breakfast, and ''The Radio 1 Review'' on BBC Radio 1 until 2014 and has presented a variety of music-related television shows and music festivals. Early life Bowman was brought up in Anstruther, Fife, Scotland. She attended secondary school at Waid Academy in Anstruther and then continued her studies in Media and Communication at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Media career Television Bowman's first on-screen job on television was as a news reader on MTV UK. Robbie Collin
Robbie Collin is a British film critic. Collin studied aesthetics and the philosophy of film at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. He edited the university's student newspaper, '' The Saint''. Collin has been the chief film critic at ''The Daily Telegraph'' since 2011. From 2007 to 2011 he wrote a weekly film column for the ''News of the World'' until the newspaper's closure. That year he was shortlisted for Critic of the Year at the British Press Awards, and was shortlisted again in 2017, when he was highly commended by the jury. The Film Review
''The Film Review'' (formerly ''Film 24'') is a 10-minute film-related programme that was usually shown on BBC News each Friday evening at 5:45pm. It reviewed three new films each week and was repeated several times during weekends. Jane Hill served as the main host, having taken over the position when Gavin Esler left as a BBC News channel presenter. Mark Kermode was the regular film critic. However, during the Coronavirus restrictions, the programme was presented exclusively by the film critic alone. A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking. Blockbuster (entertainment)
A blockbuster is a work of entertainment—typically used to describe a feature film produced by a major film studio, but also other media—that is highly popular and financially successful. The term has also come to refer to any large-budget production ''intended'' for "blockbuster" status, aimed at mass markets with associated merchandising, sometimes on a scale that meant the financial fortunes of a film studio or a distributor could depend on it. The term originated from the Blockbuster bomb which were used in World War II. ''1917'' is a 2019 war film directed and produced by Sam Mendes, who co-wrote the film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Partially inspired by stories told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather Alfred about his service during World War I, the film takes place after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich, and follows two British soldiers, Will Schofield ( George MacKay) and Tom Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), in their mission to deliver an important message to call off a doomed offensive attack. Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch also star in supporting roles. Edgar Howard Wright (born 18 April 1974) is an English filmmaker. He is known for his fast-paced and kinetic, satirical genre films, which feature extensive utilisation of expressive popular music, Steadicam tracking shots, dolly zooms and a signature editing style that includes transitions, whip pans and wipes.
