The Gold Coast Indy 300 was an annual open-wheel motor race event that took place at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia from 1991 to 2008. The challenging track, alongside a strip of beaches, had several fast sections and four chicanes. The event had various names during its history for sponsorship reasons; in its final year, it was known as the Nikon Indy 300. The race debuted in 1991 on the CART Indy Car World Series calendar, the first race in series history held outside North America. Following the split between CART and the newly formed Indy Racing League (IRL) in 1996, CART continued to sanction the event until it folded after the 2003 season. From 2004 to 2007, the race was part of the Champ Car World Series, a successor to CART. The Gold Coast 500 (formally known as the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500) is an annual motor racing event for Supercars, held at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia. The event has been a regular part of the Supercars Championship—and its previous iteration, the V8 Supercars Championship—since 2010. The event was cancelled from the 2020 and 2021 Supercars Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however returned in 2022. Having previously been held as a two-driver event known as the Gold Coast 600, the event was held as a single-driver 500 kilometre race from 2022. Format The event is staged over a three-day weekend, from Friday to Sunday. Two thirty-minute practice sessions are held on Friday. Both Saturday and Sunday feature a twenty-minute qualifying session succeeded by a top ten shootout, the combined results of which decide the grid for the following 250 km races.
