Lemense Futebol Clube
Lemense Futebol Clube is a Brazilian professional association football club based in Leme, São Paulo who currently compete in the Campeonato Paulista Série A2, the second tier of the São Paulo state football league. History The club was founded on 12 December 2005 as Sport Club Atibaia, and professionalized its football department in the same year, when they competed in their first professional competition, the Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão. They achieved promotion to the Campeonato Paulista Série A3 in 2014, and reached another promotion to the Campeonato Paulista Série A2 in 2018, the latter as champions. On 29 November 2021, Atibaia's president Alexandre Barbosa confirmed that the club would leave the city of Atibaia and move to Leme instead, taking over the name, shield and identity of Esporte Clube Lemense. Leme is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population is 104,346 (2020 est.) in an area of 403 km². At the 2000 census, it had 80,757 residents, 40,830 of whom are men and 39,927 women. 65,885 residents are 10 years old or older, and of these, 59,991, or 91.1%, are literate. Leme officially became a town on August 29, 1895 (and it celebrates its anniversary on August 29). The Brazilian states football championships are the professional adult male soccer competitions in Brazil that take place between January and April for the Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South regions. In some states from the North Region, however, it takes place in May or June. Campeonato Paulista Série A3 (also referred to as Paulistão A3 for short) is the third level of the São Paulo state professional football championship, one of the Brazilian state championships. The tournament has been known as Série A3 since the 1993-94 season. Structure The current format of the Paulistão A3 was introduced in 2018, after the number of teams was decreased from 20 to 16. Two teams are promoted to Série A2, and the bottom two teams are relegated to Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão. First stage Each of the 16 competitors play each other once in the first stage of the competition, for a total of 15 matches between mid-January and early-April. Atibaia (or ''Estância de Atibaia'') is a Brazilian municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The name is derived from an indigenous language called Tupi, and means "healthy water river". Its name has changed over time, from the primitive Tupi word Tybaia, to Thibaia, Atubaia, Thibaya, and finally the city's modern name, Atibaia. Its strawberry crops are well known. These crops are cultivated mainly by Japanese descendants, since the city was a common Japanese immigrant center. Esporte Clube Lemense, commonly known as Lemense, was a Brazilian football club based in Leme, São Paulo. History Founded on 16 June 1915, Lemense played amateur football before going into inactivity. In 1967, in an attempt to return to an active status, the club took over the colours of ''Esporte Clube Bancário'', the first team of the city to play professional football, and refounded the team on 16 April of that year. They won the Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão in 1978, and the Campeonato Paulista Série A3 in 1980, and remained 13 consecutive seasons in the second division (current Campeonato Paulista Série A2) before a change in the structure by Federação Paulista de Futebol moved the club down to the fourth tier.
