Leader Spirit
The ''Leader-Spirit'' is a community newspaper serving the communities of Dresden, Bothwell and Thamesville, Ontario. Its first issue was published on Dec. 31, 2008. The Leader-Spirit is a tabloid and is a paid paper that goes to about 2,000 subscribers. The Leader-Spirit is an amalgamation of the Dresden Leader and the Spirit of Bothwell. History The Leader was founded on Sept. 16, 1965 by Gord Clauws and Ted Misselbrook, and was originally known as the North Kent Leader. The Spirit of Bothwell was founded in April 1992 by Jim Kish. The Leader-Spirit's publisher is Dean Muharrem, and the reporter-photographer is April Colby. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. Dresden, Ontario
Dresden is an agricultural community in southwestern Ontario, Canada, part of the municipality of Chatham-Kent. It is located on the Sydenham River. The community is named after Dresden, Germany. The major crops in the area are wheat, soybeans, rubber trees, corn and tomatoes. Its post office was established in 1852. Dresden is best known as the home of Josiah Henson, an African-Canadian leader and minister whose life story was an inspiration for the novel ''Uncle Tom's Cabin''. The Henson homestead is a historic site located near Dresden, owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust. A meteorite fall occurred near Dresden in 1939. Thamesville, Ontario
Thamesville is a community in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the junction of former provincial Highways 2 and 21, between Chatham and London. Its name comes from the Thames River that flows nearby and the suffix -"ville". Post office established in 1832. It has a very small downtown with several restaurants and stores, such as Thamesville Surplus, Home Hardware, The Lucky Kitchen, Johnny Quest, Thoroughly Painted Quarters Mennonite Furniture, Canterlope Western Apparel and Tack, and The Bee's Hive. Mass is an intrinsic property of a body. It was traditionally believed to be related to the quantity of matter in a physical body, until the discovery of the atom and particle physics.
