Leabrooks, Derbyshire
Leabrooks is a small urban locality in Derbyshire that merges with the village of Somercotes and the locality of Greenhill Lane. It is named after a stream, the Lee Brook, which formerly ran through it after rising on an area known as The Lees (off Sleetmoor Lane, originally known as Lee Moor Lane). It has a number of shops and businesses, a pub, a park and a cemetery. Amber Valley is a local government district and borough in the east of Derbyshire, England, taking its name from the River Amber. It covers a semi-rural zone with four main towns whose economy was based on coal mining and remains to some extent influenced by engineering, distribution and manufacturing, holding for instance the headquarters and production site of Thorntons confectionery. The seat in the House of Commons of Amber Valley is of smaller scope. The population at the 2011 Census was 122,309. Parker Knoll is a British furniture manufacturing company, formed in 1931 by British furniture manufacturer Frederick Parker and Willi Knoll, a German inventor of a new form of sprung furniture. With roots in the manufacture of high-quality furniture, the brand concentrated on mass-market products from the 1930s to the 1990s. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1950, but taken private in 2004. After financial problems, it was acquired out of administration by Sofa Brands International. In recent years, the brand has moved back to the higher-quality end of the domestic furniture market. Frederick Parker Frederick Parker was born in Shoreditch in 1845.
