Lazarus (soundtrack)
''Lazarus (Original Cast Recording)'' is an album by the New York cast of the musical '' Lazarus'', which was written by David Bowie and Enda Walsh, with music by David Bowie – orchestrated by Henry Hey. The album was released on 21 October 2016. The album includes three previously unreleased songs by Bowie, "No Plan", "Killing a Little Time" and "When I Met You". The album was scheduled and recorded on 11 January 2016, which turned out to be the day after Bowie's death. The musicians and cast were notified upon arriving at the studio; their emotional performances are captured on the recording. "Changes" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, originally released on his 1971 album '' Hunky Dory''. RCA Records then released it as a single from the album on 7 January 1972. Written following his promotional tour of America in early 1971, "Changes" was recorded at Trident Studios in London between June and July that year. Co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott, it featured Strawbs member Rick Wakeman on piano and the musicians who would later become known as the Spiders from Mars: guitarist Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder and drummer Mick Woodmansey. "Love Is Lost" is a song by English rock musician David Bowie from his album ''The Next Day''. James Murphy's "Hello Steve Reich Mix for the DFA" was released as the fifth single from Bowie's 24th studio album ''The Next Day'' as a promotion for '' The Next Day Extra'', a special edition of bonus tracks, remixes, and music videos. The remix version of the song contains cut and looped samples from a new recording of Steve Reich's 1972 piece ''Clapping Music'' performed by Murphy and three other musicians, plus a sample from Bowie's 1980 hit " Ashes to Ashes." "The Man Who Sold the World" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. The title track of Bowie's third studio album, it was released in November 1970 in the US and in April 1971 in the UK by Mercury Records. Produced by Tony Visconti, it was recorded at Trident and Advision Studios in London in May 1970, towards the end of the album's sessions; Bowie recorded his vocal on the final day of mixing for the album, reflecting his generally dismissive attitude during the sessions. Musically, it is based around a "circular" guitar riff from Mick Ronson. Its lyrics are cryptic and evocative, being inspired by numerous poems including the 1899 " Antigonish" by William Hughes Mearns. "It's No Game" is a song written by English musician David Bowie for his 1980 album '' Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)'', featuring lead guitar played by Robert Fripp. The song is split into two parts, opening and closing the album. "(No. 1)" is musically sinister, featuring Bowie screaming lyrics and Japanese narration provided by actress Michi Hirota. "(No. 2)", a stark contrast to "(No. 1)", is much calmer, which Bowie's biographers symbolise as Bowie facing the same situation in "(No. 1)", but after the album's duration.
