Layton Utah Temple
The Layton Utah Temple is a Temple (LDS Church), temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under construction in Layton, Utah. The intent to construct the temple was announced by President of the Church (LDS Church), church president Russell M. Nelson on April 1, 2018, during the 188th annual General Conference (LDS Church), general conference. The Layton Utah Temple was announced concurrently with 6 other temples. At the time, the number of total operating or announced temples was 189. When completed, it will be the 19th temple in Utah and the second temple in Davis County, Utah, Davis County. On July 15, 2019, the church announced that the temple will be constructed on an 11.8-acre property located at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane on the southeast side of Layton and noted that the preliminary plans called for a three-story temple of more than 87,000 square feet. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), an area is an administrative unit that typically is composed of multiple stakes and missions. These areas are the primary church administrative unit between individual stakes or missions and the church as a whole. History The areas as they now exist were formed in January 1984. Prior to that time, general authorities served as "area supervisors" and at times resided outside of Salt Lake City.
