The Latin Grammy Award for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album was an honor presented annually at the Latin Grammy Awards, a ceremony that recognizes excellence and creates a wider awareness of cultural diversity and contributions of Latin recording artists in the United States and internationally. The award went to solo artists, duos, or groups for releasing vocal or instrumental albums containing at least 51% of new recordings in the ranchero music genre. Vicente Fernández is the most awarded performer in this category having won eight times including once for three consecutive years from 2002 to 2004 and once for four consecutive years from 2008 to 2011. He is also the most nominated artist in the category with fifteen nominations Pepe Aguilar is the second most-awarded performer with four wins. Ranchera () or canción ranchera is a genre of traditional music of Mexico. It dates to before the years of the Mexican Revolution. Rancheras today are played in virtually all regional Mexican music styles. Drawing on rural traditional folk music, the ranchera developed as a symbol of a new national consciousness in reaction to the aristocratic tastes of the period. The classic "rancheras" songs usually talk about life in Mexico not only in rural areas, but also portray life in Mexico at the time of the bandits. José L. Hernández (born 27 August 1958) is a Mexican mariachi musician. Hernández is the youngest of eight children (Esteban and Maria Eva Hernández, parents). He is the founder oMariachi Sol de Mexico and also Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles America's first all-female professional mariachi ensemble. Career Hernández has worked with many famous musicians in Latin music, including Selena, Luis Miguel, Linda Ronstadt, Vicente Fernández and Lola Beltrán. Francisca Viveros Barradas, (born April 2, 1947) known professionally as Paquita la del Barrio ("Paquita From the Neighborhood") is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and actress. The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year. José Pascual Antonio Aguilar Márquez Barraza (17 May 191919 June 2007) was a Mexican singer, actor, songwriter, equestrian, film producer, and screenwriter with a dominating career in music.
