Langdon, Missouri
Langdon is an unincorporated community in Atchison County, Missouri, United States. It is located about six miles southwest of Rock Port. Its post office has closed and mail is now delivered through Fairfax. Langdon was laid out in 1880. The community was named after John Langdon, a railroad official. A post office called Langdon was established in 1880, and remained in operation until 1979. Atchison County, Missouri
Atchison County is the northwesternmost county in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the county had a population of 5,305. Its county seat is Rock Port. It was originally known as Allen County when it was detached from Holt County in 1843. The county was officially organized on February 14, 1845, and named for U.S. Senator David Rice Atchison from Missouri. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.5%) is water. Atchison's western boundary for the most part is the Missouri River and Nebraska. An 1867 flood straightened a bend in the river north of Watson. Both Nebraska and Missouri claimed the 5,000 acre McKissick Island that extends almost two miles into Atchison County. The Supreme Court in 1904 decided that the land belongs to Nebraska. Rock Port, Missouri
Rock Port is a city in, and the county seat of, Atchison County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,278 at the 2020 census. History Rock Port was laid out in 1851. The city, which is eight miles east of the Missouri River in the Loess Hills bluffs above the river, derives its name from Rock Creek, which flows through it. Following the Honey War border dispute with Iowa when Missouri's northern border was shifted farther south, the original county seat was moved from Linden to Rock Port . The original city is off I-29, but an additional area is built that is a travel hub. Truck stops, motels, fast food and firework stands are located along the interstate hosting a large amount of day time visitors, despite the city's small size. Thompson–Campbell Farmstead
Thompson–Campbell Farmstead, also known as the Philip Austin and Susan Buckham Thompson Farmstead, is a historic home and farm located near Langdon, Atchison County, Missouri. The farmhouse was built in 1871, and is a -story, Italianate style brick dwelling with a two-story rear ell. It features a one-story front porch supported by fluted Doric order columns that replaced an earlier porch in 1905. Also on the property are the contributing icehouse and shed (c. 1900).
