Lamya
Lamya Al-Mugheiry (30 October 1973 – 8 January 2009), better known as her mononym Lamya, was a Kenyan-born English singer-songwriter and record producer. She rose to fame in the early 1990s as one of the lead singers of R&B group Soul II Soul, and later as a backing singer for Duran Duran. In 2002, she released her debut album '' Learning from Falling'', which spawned the number 1 Dance chart single " Empires (Bring Me Men)". On 8 January 2009, she died from a sudden heart attack. She was recording on her second album ''Hiding in Plain Sight'', which was scheduled to be released later that year. Early life Lamya Hafidh Sultan Al-Mugheiry was born in Mombasa, Kenya to Omani parents. Along with her parents, she lived in several cities around the world including Cairo and London. Learning From Falling
''Learning from Falling'' is the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter artist Lamya. The album included production by Nellee Hooper and Mark Ronson and entered the Top Heatseekers chart in the United States at #16. A remix of the first single "Empires (Bring Me Men)" reached #1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance/Club Play chart. The track "Black Mona Lisa" was covered by British R&B singer Maria Lawson on her eponymous album. A third single, "Never Enough", was only released as a promo. All tracks were co-written by Lamya. "Pink Moon" is a cover of the Nick Drake song. They are best known for their two major hits; 1989's UK number five and US number eleven " Keep On Movin'", and its follow-up, the UK number one and US number four " Back to Life". Charlotte Kelly
Charlotte Kelly is a British singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, and record producer. Kelly rose to fame in the mid-1990s as one of the lead singers of British R&B group Soul II Soul, one of the London's best-selling groups of all time. She performed lead vocals on their single "I Care" for their fourth studio album ''Volume V: Believe'' (1995). She continued to record and perform with the group until the release of their final studio album ''Time for Change'' (1997). During their hiatus, Kelly released her debut solo album ''Just Another Girl'' (1998), which sold exclusively in Japan. She released her second album ''Charlotte'' (1999), which included number-one dance hit "Skin". Kelly reunited with the group in 2010 for their Reunion Tour. Raze was an American electronic dance music group by the multi-instrumentalist and producer Vaughan Mason. Raze also included the vocalists Keith Thompson, Wanda Sykes, Bobby Coleman and DJ Stephon Johnson. Biography Early releases included "Jack the Groove" and "Let the Music Move U", both in 1986. Trevor Beresford Romeo OBE, (born 26 January 1963) better known as Jazzie B, is a British DJ and music producer. He is the founder of Soul II Soul. Life and career Jazzie was born in London UK to parents of Antiguan descent in Hornsey, London, the ninth of ten children, several of whom began running sound systems in the 1960s and 1970s. At age 18, Jazzie was working for cockney pop skiffle legend Tommy Steele, as a tape operator. He had his first gig in 1977 working with friends under the Rastafari name Jah Rico. He changed their working name to Soul II Soul in 1982.
