Lalbazar Fire Station, Kolkata
Lalbazar is a neighbourhood in Central Kolkata, earlier known as Calcutta, in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is part of the central business district adjoining B.B.D. Bagh area. The headquarters of the Kolkata Police is located here (18, Lalbazar Street) and is popularly known by the same name. History The road leading from the north-east corner of B.B.D. Bagh to Bowbazar was earlier known as ‘Avenue to the eastward’. It was also known as the Great Bungalo Road. In 1768, it was said to be the best street in Kolkata. The modern police office was the residence of John Palmer, one of the merchant princes of Kolkata. Earlier to that it was said to be ‘an old ruin of a house, formerly the residence of some native.’ The house next to it was the Harmonic Tavern, the handsomest house in its day and pulled down long back. Kolkata Circular Railway
Kolkata Circular Railway, also known as the Kolkata Chakra Rail (), is a long railway loop line operated by the Sealdah division of the Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways, encircling the city of Kolkata. Services The line begins and terminates at Dum Dum Junction, with a total of 19 stations spread over the route's length (Dumdum junction to Majerhat via Princepghat route :- & Majerhat to Dumdum junction via Ballygunge Junction route :- ). Services on the line are operated as an extension of the Kolkata Suburban Railway, partially sharing tracks with the Sealdah South section. Bepin Behari Ganguly Street
Bepin Behari Ganguly Street, or B.B. Ganguly Street, formerly known as Bow Bazar Street or Bowbazar Street, is an east-west road in Central Kolkata, capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. It passes through Bowbazar area and connects Baithakkhana Market (Sealdah) and Sealdah Station with Bentinck Street/Rabindra Sarani crossing (Lalbazar) via Amherst Street crossing, Nirmal Chandra Street/ College Street crossing and Central Avenue crossing. West of Bentinck Street crossing, B.B. Ganguly Street becomes Lalbazar Street. This road's name is a tribute for Bepin Behari Ganguly, a famous freedom-fighter and politician of India. Sukanta Chaudhuri
Sukanta Chaudhuri (born 1950) is an Indian literary scholar, now Professor Emeritus at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He was educated at Presidency College, Kolkata and the University of Oxford. He taught at Presidency College from January 1973 to December 1991 and at Jadavpur University thereafter till his retirement in June 2010. At Jadavpur, he was founding Director of the School of Cultural Texts and Records, a pioneering centre of digital humanities in India. His chief fields of study are the English and European Renaissance, translation, textual studies and digital humanities. Bowbazar ( bn, বৌবাজার, also spelt ''Boubazar''; formerly known as Bahubazar) is a neighbourhood of Central Kolkata, in Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History On Lt. Col. The State Legislative Assembly, or Vidhan Sabha, or also Saasana Sabha, is a legislative body in the states and union territories of India. In the 28 states and 3 union territories with a unicameral state legislature, it is the sole legislative body and in 6 states it is the lower house of their bicameral state legislatures with the upper house being State Legislative Council. 5 union territories are governed directly by the Union Government of India and have no legislative body.
