La Pozze Latina
La Pozze Latina was a hip hop band from Chile active from 1991 to 2000. The group was formed in 1991 in Santiago by Rodrigo Johan Mendez (aka MC Rody or Too Small) who had recently arrived from The Netherlands and was the son of Patricia Vera a political refugee, he made the beats with a drum machine and an Ensoniq sampler. The latter would return to Europe in 1995, leaving Jimmy Fernández as a frontman who arrived from exile in East Germany in 1993. Their biggest hits are the ''Con el olor de mi aliento'' (the first Hip Hop video made in Latinamerica issued by MTV Latino), ''Chica eléctrica'' and the coversong ''Pedro Navaja'' from Rubén Blades. La Pozze Latina have been one of the pillars of hip hop in Chile, not only because it was one of the first groups to practice the kind in the country, but also because they placed pioneering rap on local radio stations, before the jump to fame of Tiro de Gracia and Makiza. MTV is a Latin American pay television network that was launched on 1 October 1993 as the Hispanic American version of MTV. It is owned by Paramount Networks Americas, a subsidiary of Paramount Global. The channel broadcasts music videos as well as reality shows, TV series and movies, which may be directly or indirectly related to music, aimed at the youth. Pedro Navaja
"Pedro Navaja" ( en, Peter Blade) is a salsa song written and performed by Rubén Blades from the 1978 collaboration with Willie Colón, ''Siembra'', about a criminal of the same name. ''Navaja'' means "knife" or "razor blade" in Spanish. Inspired by the song "Mack the Knife", it tells the story of a panderer's life and presumed death. The song is recognized throughout Hispanic America, as it retells scenes and stories common to these countries, although the story takes place in New York City. The song deals with life, death and the unexpected with dark humor. A film titled ''Pedro Navaja'' based on the song was filmed in Mexico in 1984, starring Andrés García as the title character, Maribel Guardia as his girlfriend, and Resortes as his best friend. Rubén Blades
Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna (born July 16, 1948), known professionally as Rubén Blades (, but in Panama and within the family), is a Panamanian musician, singer, composer, actor, activist, and politician, performing musically most often in the salsa, and Latin jazz genres. As a songwriter, Blades brought the lyrical sophistication of Central American ''nueva canción'' and Cuban ''nueva trova'' as well as experimental tempos and politically inspired Son Cubano salsa to his music, creating "thinking persons' (salsa) dance music". Tiro De Gracia
Tiro de Gracia is a Chilean Hip-Hop group formed by the MC's: Lenwa Dura and Zaturno "Tiro de Gracia" was known for their raw lyrical style. They initially performed using cassette tapes looped by "DJ Raff" former member of " La Pozze Latina". During this time the group recorded two independent albums titled "Arma Calibrada" and "Homosapiens", which were distributed hand to hand on the local hip hop scene. Makiza
Makiza was a Chilean hip hop group formed in 1997. The group’s music was known for its political and social criticism, with their lyrics often attacking the military dictatorship of Chile. Before breaking up in 2006, the group was one of the most successful hip hop acts in Chile.
