Luke Feldman
Luke Feldman (born 1 August 1984) is a former Australian cricketer who played for the Queensland Bulls. He is the son of former Queensland One Nation party leader Bill Feldman. He was a policeman in the North Queensland country towns of Charters Towers and Innisfail and drove to play club cricket in Townsville and Cairns comps before returning to fulfil his duties as a policeman after the game. After some strong performances he was offered a place in the Queensland Academy. He made his Sheffield Shield debut against the Victorian Bushrangers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. During the match, he made a mid-night arrest after an intruder came into his hotel room. By that stage he'd already bowled Nick Jewell and was soon wreaking more havoc on the Victorian team. Since then he has improved by gaining match figures of 9 for 81 against the New South Wales Blues. Sunnybank, Queensland
Sunnybank is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is known for its many Asian shops and restaurants. History The Jagera Indigenous people were the first to inhabit the area well over 20,000 years ago. Early settlers noticed that the Sunnybank district had good rainfall and a beautiful loamy soil, somewhat sandy in character, that produced beautiful displays of natural wild flowers. From the mid-19th century it developed into a farming area with prosperous fruit and poultry farms and gardens of every kind. The Town of Sunnybank was surveyed in 1886. The name came from a property called Sunny Brae Estate owned by the Gillespie family. In the 19th century it was part of a much larger area known as the Parish of Yeerongpilly, but a distinct town outside of the area known as Brisbane. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. 2017–18 Sheffield Shield Season
The 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season was the 116th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. It started on 26 October 2017 and finished on 27 March 2018. The opening round of matches were played as day/night fixtures and the first three rounds of matches took place before the Ashes series. Victoria were the defending champions. In round two of the competition, Mitchell Starc became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in each innings of a first-class cricket match in Australia. He became the second Australian, and the eighth bowler overall, to do so in a first-class match. In the final round of fixtures, Tasmania beat the defending champions, Victoria, by 156 runs to advance to their first Sheffield Shield final since the 2012–13 season. Result (cricket)
The result in a game of cricket may be a "win" for one of the two teams playing, or a "tie". In the case of a limited overs game, the game can also end with "no result" if the game can't be finished on time (usually due to weather or bad light), and in other forms of cricket, a "draw" may be possible. Which of these results applies, and how the result is expressed, is governed by Law 16 of the laws of cricket. Win and loss The result of a match is a "win" when one side scores more runs than the opposing side and all the innings of the team that has fewer runs have been completed. Tied Test
A Tied Test is a Test cricket match in which the side batting second is bowled out in the fourth innings, with scores level. This is a very rare result; only two ties have occurred in the 2,000 Tests played since 1877. The first was in 1960 and the second in 1986. On both occasions, the aggregate scores of both sides (teams) were equal at the conclusion of play and the side batting last had completed its final innings: 10 batsmen had been dismissed or, from the perspective of the side bowling, 10 wickets had been taken. In other words, after four completed innings, with each innings ending either by a declaration or 10 wickets having fallen, the runs for both teams were exactly the same. Single (cricket)
{{unreferenced, date=November 2008 In cricket, a single is scored when the batsman take one run, either following a successful shot (with the run attributed to the on-strike batsman) or when running for a bye or leg bye (counted as an extra). Unlike when a boundary is hit (and the run are scored even if the batsmen don't leave their creases), scoring a single requires the batsmen to physically run between the wickets. This introduces the risk of being run out, so effective communication between the batsmen is vital. If one batsman attempts to run and the other stays put, then a humiliating run out is likely, but quick and well attuned batsmen may be able to run "quick singles" when other batsmen would not. 2011–12 Sheffield Shield Season
The 2011–12 Sheffield Shield season is the 110th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. The season began on 11 October 2011, with Queensland playing Victoria, and concluded on 19 March 2012 with the top two teams playing off in the final. Teams * New South Wales will also host one match at Bankstown Oval in Sydney and Manuka Oval in Canberra.
