Luke Digby
Luke Digby (born 5 February 2001) is a British figure skater. He is a three-time British National champion (2022-2024) in pair skating with Anastasia Vaipan-Law. Career Singles career Luke Digby was born in Sheffield on 5 February 2001. He began skating in 2007 at iceSheffield as a single skater. Digby participated at 2017 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, where he finished eighth and then went on to place sixth at the 2017 Volvo Open Cup. He competed at the 2017 Junior Nationals, placing fifth. Digby also won side-to-side Junior Nationals in 2018 and 2019. Nevertheless, his best international result was second place at the 2018 Torun Cup. He also finished eighth at the 2018 Minsk Arena Ice Star and fourth at the 2018 Volvo Open Cup. Death Spiral (figure Skating)
The death spiral is a figure skating term used to describe a spin involving two partners in the discipline of pair skating, in which one partner lowers the other partner while the partner getting close to the ice arches backward on one foot.S&P/ID 2022, p. 120 It was created by German professional skater Charlotte Oelschlägel and her husband Curt Newmann in the 1920s. Suzanne Morrow and Wallace Diestelmeyer from Canada were the first pair team to perform the death spiral one-handed (the man holding the woman in position with one hand), at the 1948 Olympic Games. Ice Star
The Minsk-Arena Ice Star, or simply Ice Star, is an international figure skating competition. Medals may be awarded in men's singles, ladies' singles, pairs, and ice dancing on the senior, junior, and novice levels. The inaugural event was held in September 2012 in Minsk, Belarus. 2022–23 ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The 2022–23 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of invitational senior internationals that is held from October 2022 through December 2022. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. Skaters earn points based on their placement at each event and the top six in each discipline qualified to compete at the Grand Prix Final in Turin, Italy. Organized by the International Skating Union, the series sets the stage for the 2023 European, the 2023 Four Continents, and the 2023 World Championships. 2022–23 Figure Skating Season
The 2022–23 figure skating season began on July 1, 2022 and will end on June 30, 2023. During this season, elite skaters will compete on the ISU Championship level at the 2023 European, Four Continents, World Junior, and World Championships. They will also compete at elite events such as the Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix series, culminating in the Grand Prix Final, and the ISU Challenger Series. From March 1, 2022 onwards, the International Skating Union banned all figure skaters and officials from Russia and Belarus from attending any international competitions following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. COVID-19
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). 2022 European Figure Skating Championships
The 2022 European Figure Skating Championships were held from 10 to 16 January 2022 in Tallinn, Estonia. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. The competition determined the entry quotas for each federation at the 2023 European Championships. Russia swept the titles for a second consecutive European Championships and for the eighth time in history (after 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2020). Tallinn was announced as the host in June 2019. The city previously hosted the competition in 2010. Christopher Boyadji
Christopher Boyadji (born 15 July 1990) is a retired French pair skater who represents Great Britain. With former partner Zoe Jones, he is a four-time British national champion (2017-2020). With former partner Amani Fancy, he is a two-time national champion (2014, 2016). Personal life After becoming a pairs team, Jones and Boyadji began a relationship and welcomed their daughter, Arya, in April 2023. Career For France Boyadji began skating at the age of 7½ after watching Philippe Candeloro on television. As a competitor in men's singles, he was coached by Diana Skotnická in Courbevoie and by Sylvain Privé. He represented France at five ISU Junior Grand Prix events and the 2009 Winter Universiade. Zoe Jones (formerly Wood and Wilkinson; born 14 January 1980) is a retired British figure skater. She is a two-time British national champion (2000, 2001) in ladies' singles. She reached the free skate at three ISU Championships and qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics, but could not compete because of injury.
