Loretta McLaughlin
Loretta McLaughlin (1928 – November 23, 2018) was an American journalist, author and newspaper editor. As a journalist at the ''Boston Record American'', McLaughlin, along with Jean (née Cole) Harris, covered the Boston Strangler murders in 1962. She was the first journalist to connect the murders and break the story about the serial killer. In 1992, she was appointed as Editorial Page Editor for the Boston Globe, only the second woman to serve in this role. Early life and education Born Loretta McDermott in 1928 in Woburn, Massachusetts to Anna (née Ring) McDermott, a homemaker, and John McDermott, who worked for a Quincy, Massachusetts shipyard. Woburn, Massachusetts
Woburn ( ) is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 40,876 at the 2020 census. Woburn is located north of Boston. Woburn uses Massachusetts' mayor-council form of government, in which an elected mayor is the executive and a partly district-based, partly at-large city council is the legislature. It is the only one of Massachusetts' 351 municipalities to refer to members of its City Council as "Aldermen." History Woburn was first settled in 1640 near Horn Pond, a primary source of the Mystic River, and was officially incorporated in 1642. Barbara Ehrenreich
Barbara Ehrenreich (, ; ; August 26, 1941 – September 1, 2022) was an American author and political activist. During the 1980s and early 1990s, she was a prominent figure in the Democratic Socialists of America. She was a widely read and award-winning columnist and essayist and the author of 21 books. Ehrenreich was best known for her 2001 book '' Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America'', a memoir of her three-month experiment surviving on a series of minimum wage jobs. She was a recipient of a Lannan Literary Award.
