Oy Loppo Production Ltd is a Finnish firearms manufacturer in Savonlinna founded in 1976 which is known for their silhouette pistols, including those based on rebuilt Tikka M55 steel actions or in-house made actions of aluminium and steel. The silhouette pistols of Aseseppä Löppönen or "Gunsmith Loppo" has been favored by three-time world champion in metallic silhouette shooting Rauno Ärväs. Loppo was the second pistol to come on the IMSSU Production list after the Excalibur pistol. History The Loppo company was founded by Martti "Myrä" Löppönen which started his career in 1976 by building revolvers and pistols for silhouette shooting as well as other custom firearms by order. Among chamberings used in these pistols was the wildcat cartridge 30-39 which is a 7.62×39 mm case with a 7.82-mm bullet ( 0.308 inch) instead of 7.9 mm (0.311 inch). Jalonen was a Finnish firearms manufacturer in Sastamala from 1990 to 2016. The company is known for making Metallic silhouette shooting, silhouette pistols and rifles for hunting og Shooting sports, sport shooting based on their own series of Receiver (firearms), action designs called "JJ-aktio". The firearms were built to order, and customers could choose from a selection of chamberings. History In 1990, Jyri Jalonen started producing firearms. In the early 2000s it became difficult to export receivers-only from Finland, and Jalonen therefore switched to delivering barreled actions by combining their action with locally produced hunting barrels from Mäkinen for a few years until Mäkinen retired. Stocks and other accessories were ordered from other manufacturers. By 2007, the company had produced approximately thousand firearms, and was in the process of calming down its activity. Metallic Silhouette Shooting
Metallic silhouette shooting is a group of target shooting disciplines that involves shooting at steel targets representing game animals at varying distances, seeking to knock the metal target over. Metallic silhouette is shot with large bore rifles fired freehand without support out to 500 meters, and with large bore handguns from the prone position with only body support out to 200 meters. Competitions are also held with airguns and black-powder firearms. A related genre is shot with bow and arrow, the metal targets being replaced with cardboard or foam. The targets used are rams, turkeys, pigs, and chickens, which are cut to different scales and set at certain distances from the shooter depending on the specific discipline. The Tikka M55 (originally Tikka M76 and also Tikka LSA55) is a Finnish rifle designed by Finnish firearms company Tikkakoski in 1967–1968. M55 was the first centerfire rifle action designed by Tikkakoski, and it was manufactured from 1968 to 1989. Tikkakoski also developed a long action rifle based on the M55, called Tikka M65. The Tikka M55 was imported to the United States by Ithaca Gun Company.
