Pashto ( , ; , ) is an eastern Iranian language in the Indo-European language family, natively spoken in northwestern Pakistan and southern and eastern Afghanistan. It has official status in Afghanistan and the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is known in historical Persian literature as Afghani (). Spoken as a native language mostly by ethnic Pashtuns, it is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan alongside Dari, Constitution of Afghanistan �''Chapter 1 The State, Article 16 (Languages) and Article 20 (Anthem)''/ref> and it is the second-largest provincial language of Pakistan, spoken mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern districts of Balochistan. Irfan Khan (Pashto: عرفان خان) is a Pakistani Pashtun pop singer. Retrieved July 16, 2016 singing in both Pashto and Urdu. His claim to fame came with the release of a Pashto single "Pekhawar Khu Pekhawar De" which translates into "Peshawar Is Peshawar", a song he wrote in a tribute to his hometown. He recently recorded a single with Hadiqa Kiyani called "Jaanan". "Jaanan" was Irfan's title song from his Album by the same name. "Jaanan" proved to be a superhit song all over Pakistan in 2010. Dr. Mohammad Sadiq Fitrat, born Sadiq Fitrat Habibi (Pashto/Dari: ), known professionally as Nashenas (), is one of the oldest surviving musicians from Afghanistan. His fame began in the late 1950s, and since then he has produced many albums consisting of Pashto, Persian, and Urdu songs. He is known as "the Afghan Saigal". Background and early life Nashenas was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan to an ethnic Pashtun family. He belongs to the famous Habibi family who are Kakar by tribe. Naghma (; , born 1 January 1964) is an Afghan singer who started her career in the early 1980s. Similar to that of Sonny & Cher, she sang alongside Mangal during the 1980s and early 1990s. Latif Nangarhari (Pashto :لطیف ننګرهاری, born about 1981) is a well known Afghan singer. He sings in the Pashto language (although has one Dari song). He is an ethnic Pashtun born in Jalalabad in Nangarhar Province (a reference from his surname), and has lived in London, England since 2001. Latif's first songs were released in 2008, with his first and so far only album, ''Rasha Gule'', consisting of 10 songs, in 2009. He quickly became popular, especially because many of his songs are based on poetry and about peace in Afghanistan. Rezwan Munawar (, born January 1, 1964) is a Pashto folklore singer who started singing in 1985. He is ethnically Pashtun and belongs to the Safi tribe originally from Mazar valley of Nurgal district of Kunar. He was born in Kuz Kunar district of Nangarhar province in 1964 where he also studied and graduated from Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan High School in 1981. Early life In 1982 Munawar started working as a school teacher in Ahmad Kot Intermediate and then in Tawakal baba Intermediate School of Kuz Kunar district. Ustad Khyal Muhammad (, born 1946) is a Pashtun singer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He has appeared regularly on television, usually singing ghazals and in movies. Career Khyal Mohammad belongs to the Afridi tribe of Pushtuns. He is originally from Tirah in Khyber Tribal District. He was born in Peshawar on 5 January 1946 to a musical family. His brother Saif Ul-Maluk was a popular singer in the 1960s, who often performed on Radio Peshawar. Saif introduced him to the radio station, where he first performed in 1958, aged 13. However, for the next ten years he mainly restricted himself to playing instruments such as the tabla and harmonium.
