This is a list of neighbourhoods and outlying communities within the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In 2001, the old city of Ottawa was amalgamated with the suburbs of Nepean, Kanata, Gloucester, Rockcliffe Park, Vanier and Cumberland, and the rural townships of West Carleton, Osgoode, Rideau and Goulbourn, along with the systems and infrastructure of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario, Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, to become one municipality. Neighbourhood
A neighbourhood (Commonwealth English) or neighborhood (American English) is a geographically localized community within a larger town, city, suburb or rural area, sometimes consisting of a single street and the buildings lining it. Neighbourhoods are often social communities with considerable face-to-face interaction among members. Researchers have not agreed on an exact definition, but the following may serve as a starting point: "Neighbourhood is generally defined spatially as a specific geographic area and functionally as a set of social networks. Neighbourhoods, then, are the Neighbourhood unit, spatial units in which face-to-face social interactions occur—the personal settings and situations where residents seek to realise common values, socialise youth, and maintain effective social control." Beacon Hill, Ottawa
Beacon Hill is a neighbourhood located in Beacon Hill-Cyrville Ward in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Beacon Hill was a part of the City of Gloucester until it was amalgamated with the new city of Ottawa in 2001. Beacon Hill is a primarily residential area, built in the 1960s and '70s. It consists of two parts, Beacon Hill North and Beacon Hill South, divided by Montreal Road. It includes the Robert O. Pickard sewage treatment plant and three high schools, Colonel By Secondary School, Gloucester High School, and Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School. According to the Beacon Hill Community Association, the neighbourhood is bounded on the east by the Greenbelt, including the Green's Creek ravine, to the south by Highway 174, and on the west by Blair Road (south of Montreal Road) and Rothwell Heights (north of Montreal Road). Vernon, Ontario
Vernon is a compact rural community in Osgoode Ward in the southern part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, Vernon was located in Osgoode Township. Fitzroy Harbour
Fitzroy Harbour is a small village within the city of Ottawa in eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Ottawa River at the mouth of the Carp River. A branch of the Mississippi River, known as the Snye, also empties into the Ottawa to the west of the village. Fitzroy Provincial Park is located nearby. The village has one school located within it, St. Michael's Catholic school. Fitzroy Harbour Public School was closed in 2006. Notre-Dame-des-Champs, Ontario
Notre-Dame-des-Champs (Our Lady of the Fields) is a rural community on the northern edge of Mer Bleue in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada at the intersection of Navan Road and Mer Bleue Road. Prior to 2001 amalgamation, it was on the border between Cumberland and Gloucester. Today, in the Orléans South-Navan Ward. The population was approximately 1375 in 2006. City View (also known as St. Claire Gardens) is a neighbourhood in College Ward in the west end of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located within the former city of Nepean. Most of the homes in it were built from the 1930s to the 1960s. By the early 2000s some of the home were beginning to be demolished and replaced with in-fill. That has continued into the mid-2020s. Nepean, Ontario
Nepean ( ) is an area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located west of Ottawa's inner core, it was an independent city until amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa. However, the name Nepean continues in common usage in reference to the area. The population of Nepean is about 186,593 people (2021 Census). Nepean's policies of operational and capital budgeting prudence contrasted with the budget philosophies of some other municipalities in the area. Gloucester, Ontario
Gloucester ( ) is a former municipality and now geographic area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located east of Ottawa's inner core, it was an independent city until amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa. Riverside South, Ottawa
Riverside South is a suburban community in Gloucester-South Nepean Ward in the south end of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, just southwest of Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, the area was located in the city of Gloucester. Its population, according to the Canada 2021 Census, was 19,802. In the early 1990s this area was mostly vacant with a few houses and some farms. The first homes in the community were built in 1996. Since then, there has been extensive housing development that seems to be growing at the pace of other major suburban communities in the region, such as Barrhaven, Kanata and Orléans. Currently, most of the built up area of the community is limited to areas around River Road and Earl Armstrong Road, and just west of Limebank Road.
