Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) also known as computer-aided modeling or computer-aided machining is the use of software to control machine tools in the manufacturing of work pieces. This is not the only definition for CAM, but it is the most common. It may also refer to the use of a computer to assist in all operations of a manufacturing plant, including planning, Industrial management, management, transportation and storage. Its primary purpose is to create a faster production process and components and tooling with more precise dimensions and material consistency, which in some cases, uses only the required amount of raw material (thus minimizing waste), while simultaneously reducing energy consumption. CATIA
CATIA (, an acronym of computer-aided three-dimensional interactive application) is a multi-platform software suite for computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), computer-aided engineering (CAE), 3D modeling and product lifecycle management (PLM), developed by the French company Dassault Systèmes. SprutCAM
SprutCAM X is a high-level Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software that provides off-line features for programming of various CNC machines used for cutting, wire electrical discharge (EDM), 2, 3, and multi axial (CNC Swiss-Type Lathe) machining. The program was developed by SprutCAM Tech Ltd based in Limassol, Cyprus. SprutCAM only supports Microsoft Windows 10/11 version. History SPRUT Technology, LTD. was founded in 1987 by Alexander Kharadziev, who recruited a team of engineers to build a company for developing CAx software, with its headquarters at Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia, and released its known product, SprutCAM, in 1997. Surfware, Inc. is a Camarillo, CA-based company involved in the development of CAD/CAM software. Company history In 1950, Victor Diehl opened a mold shop in Southern California for machine tooling medical products. Throughout the 1950s, Victor Diehl focused on precision mold products for the medical industry. In the 1960s, Victor and Alan Diehl got a numerical control machine ( CNC) to expedite tooling of components for aircraft manufacturing. Ten years later, Alan and his brother-in-law Jack Epps, a physicist, built a smart NC machine powered by a mini-computer. In 1980, Bryan and Larry Diehl, joined the machining firm and wrote a UNIX program for surface modeling and machining.
