Lindy Nelson-Carr
Lindel Helena Nelson-Carr (born 15 July 1952) is a former Australian politician who was the member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Mundingburra from 1998 until she stood down at the 2012 state election. Parliamentary career Nelson-Carr was elected as Member for Mundingburra in the Parliament of Queensland at the election on 13 June 1998, when she achieved a swing of 6.7 per cent away from sitting Liberal MP Frank Tanti. She increased her margin to 10.54 per cent at the 2006 election; this result went against the statewide trend of a slight swing against Labor. Four days after the election, on 13 September 2006, Nelson-Carr was promoted to the Cabinet in the Beattie Ministry as Minister for Environment and Multiculturalism. Mundingburra is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It is currently held by Labor Party MP Les Walker. Overview The seat is one of four within the Townsville urban area in North Queensland. 1998 Australian Waterfront Dispute
The Australian waterfront dispute of 1998 was an event in Australian industrial relations history, in which the Patrick Corporation undertook a restructuring of their operations for the purpose of dismissing their workforce. The restructuring by Patrick Corporation was later ruled illegal by Australian courts. The dispute involved Patrick Corporation terminating the employment of its workforce and locking out the workers of the workplace after the restructuring had taken place, with many of these workers members of the dominant Maritime Union of Australia. The resulting dismissal and locking out of their unionised workforce was supported and backed by the Australian Liberal/ National Coalition Government. The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union (also known as the Meatworkers Union) is an Australian trade union representing workers in the meat industry including in abattoirs, butchers, and smallgoods manufacturers. Structure The AMIEU has branches representing workers each State and Territory of Australia. Branch officials are democratically elected by the members every four years. The union also has a Federal Council, which represents the union nationally and is the supreme decision making body of the union. Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia.
