Lin Bing
Lin Bing ( th, หลินปิง, ) (also called Lin Ping) is a female giant panda in Thailand. Born on 27 May 2009 at Chiang Mai Zoo in Chiang Mai, Thailand by Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) to Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang, it is the first giant panda born in Thailand. Its name, meaning the "Forest of Ice", was chosen after a nationwide name selection contest that attracted 22 million votes. "Bing" also sounds similar to the name of the Ping River, which flows through Northern Thailand, where the zoo is located. Like her parents, Lin Bing is considered the property of China. Therefore, Lin Bing was scheduled to be sent to China after she turns two years old. The news of her birth and subsequent publicity have attracted many more tourists to the zoo, influencing the organisation's decision to build a 60 million baht (approximately $1.5 million) worth dome for residing the cub. The giant panda (''Ailuropoda melanoleuca''), also known as the panda bear (or simply the panda), is a bear species endemic to China. It is characterised by its bold black-and-white coat and rotund body. The name "giant panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the red panda, a neighboring musteloid. Though it belongs to the order Carnivora, the giant panda is a folivore, with bamboo shoots and leaves making up more than 99% of its diet. Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium is a zoo on Huay Kaew Road, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, just west of Chiang Mai University. It is the first commercial zoo in northern Thailand, established on 16 June 1977. History In 1950 the US government sent military advisers to train tribal police along the border of Thailand. Among them was Harold Mason Young, son of American missionaries, who had been born in Burma. Young started helping injured animals, and his collection started getting visitors. The Chiang Mai provincial government set aside at the base of Doi Suthep, the mountain immediately adjacent to Chiang Mai, and the facility was opened to the public in 1957. Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer
Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) is a tool of assisted reproductive technology against infertility. Eggs are removed from a woman's ovaries, and placed in one of the Fallopian tubes, along with the man's sperm. The technique, first attempted by Steptoe and Edwards and later pioneered by endocrinologist Ricardo Asch, allows fertilization to take place inside the woman's uterus. With the advances in IVF the GIFT procedure is used less as pregnancy rates in IVF tend to be equal or better and do not require laparoscopy when the egg is put back. Method It takes, on average, four to six weeks to complete a cycle of GIFT. First, the woman must take a fertility drug to stimulate egg production in the ovaries. Chuang Chuang And Lin Hui
Chuang Chuang (6 August 2000 – 16 September 2019) and Lin Hui (28 September 2001 – 19 April 2023) were two giant pandas from Sichuan, China on loan to Chiang Mai Zoo in Chiang Mai, Thailand. History Chuang Chuang, male, was born on 6 August 2000 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas in Wolong, Sichuan province, China. Chuang Chuang's mother is Bai Xue and his father is Xin Xing. Lin Hui, female, was born on 28 September 2001, also from the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas in Wolong. Lin Hui's mother is Tang Tang and her father is Pan Pan. The pandas arrived at Chiang Mai Zoo on 12 October 2003 to begin a ten-year conservation program to breed giant pandas.
