Lin Arison
Marilyn "Lin" Arison (born May 10, 1937) is the co-founder of the National YoungArts Foundation and the New World Symphony. She is the widow of Ted Arison, founder of Carnival Cruise Lines, and a real estate investor in Florida. Arison is an arts education advocate and a philanthropist. In 2007, she published a book about Van Gogh and impressionism, featuring her personal travel memoir alongside photographs by Neil Folberg. Ted Arison
Ted Arison (; 24 February 1924 – 1 October 1999) was an Israeli businessman who co-founded Norwegian Cruise Lines in 1966 with Knut Kloster and soon left to form Carnival Cruise Lines in 1972. Early years Arison was born Theodore Arisohn on 24 February 1924 in Tel Aviv (in the then British Mandate of Palestine) to Meir, a wealthy businessman, and Vera Arisohn. He was a third-generation sabra of Jewish descent in Romania's diaspora and studied commerce and economics at the American University of Beirut. During World War II, he enlisted in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army and fought in Italy. Micky Arison (; born June 29, 1949) is an Israeli-American billionaire businessman and chairman of Carnival Corporation, the world's largest cruise operator. New World Symphony (orchestra)
The New World Symphony is an American orchestral academy based in Miami Beach, Florida. Established in 1987, the organization is a training ensemble for young musicians in preparation for professional careers in classical music. Since 2011, the New World Symphony has its headquarters in the New World Center. History In 1987, Michael Tilson Thomas established the New World Symphony, with initial financial assistance from Ted Arison, the founder of Carnival Cruise Lines. Thomas and Arison had similar visions of a training orchestra for young conservatory graduates to assist them in finding employment with professional orchestras. Neil Folberg (; born April 7, 1950) is an American-Israeli photographer and gallerist. Early life and education Folberg was born in San Francisco in 1950. His father was Joseph Folberg, a San Francisco gallerist. At the age of 16, Folberg was invited to study with Ansel Adams at a photographic workshop which Adams had established in Yosemite National Park. Shortly after, in 1967, he enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley, intending to focus on the natural sciences, but ultimately switching to photography studies, under the guidance of William Garnett—who became the head of Berkeley's school of architecture and design at the time—and under the mentorship of Ansel Adams.
