Lilit Martirosyan (activist)
Lilit Martirosyan is an Armenian LGBTQ+ rights activist known for her 2019 speech to the Armenian Parliament and for founding the Right Side NGO, an Armenian transgender rights group. Early life Lilit Martirosyan is a transgender woman. She recalls preferring playing with jewelry more than the trucks and tractors that she routinely received as gifts as a child. After facing intense bullying and family conflicts as a child, her parents not supportive of her transgender identity, she moved out of her parents' home to live on her own at the age of 13. Despite working both as a waitress and a cook, she was eventually forced to do sex work to earn enough money to survive and to be able to afford hormone therapy. By the time she was 18, she had saved enough money to begin her medical transition with hormonal therapy and gender-affirming surgeries. Right Side NGO () is the first transgender rights organization in Armenia and the first trans-led organization in the South Caucasus region. The Human Rights Tulip () is an annual prize awarded by the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs to a human rights defender or organisation who promotes and supports human rights in innovative ways. The Human Rights Tulip was established in 2007 and presented for the first time on 10 December 2008 and designed by the artist duo Adelheid and Huub Kortekaas. Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan (born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician who is serving as the 16th and current Prime Minister of Armenia, prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018.
