Lighthouse is a mixed-use development in the suburb of Dee Why in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney. Lighthouse features 351 apartments and 16,000sqm of retail and commercial space. The shopping centre is known as Meriton Retail Precinct Dee Why is an outdoor shopping centre anchored by Woolworths and features 16 other stores. Transport Lighthouse has bus connections to the Sydney CBD, Lower North Shore and the Northern Beaches, as well as local surrounding suburbs. Dee Why
Dee Why is a coastal suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 18 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Northern Beaches Council. History Name The reasons for Dee Why's name remain unclear. The earliest reference to it is a pencil note in surveyor James Meehan's field book, "Wednesday, 27th Sept, 1815 Dy Beach - Marked a Honey Suckle Tree near the Beach". What it meant to him is not clear, but various claims have been put forward, including: *The letters DY were simply a marker that Meehan used to mark many other places on his map. *The name came from the local Aboriginal language that Meehan used to name many of the locations that he surveyed. A dead mall, also known as a ghost mall or zombie mall, is a shopping mall that has low consumer traffic or is deteriorating in some manner. Venture was a chain of Discount store, discount Department store, department stores that operated in Australia between 1970 and 1994. Unrelated to the defunct North American chain of the same name (see Venture Stores), Venture is best remembered as a retailer of medium quality women's and children's clothing as well as soft homewares. The Hobart outlet was also notable for having an in-store restaurant called Charlie's. Venture experienced financial difficulties in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was placed in liquidation in April 1994, with all stores closing soon after. Franklins was an Australian discount supermarket chain selling packaged groceries and perishables throughout New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. It sold the "No Frills" home brand generic products. In 2011 the chain was bought by Metcash and the stores were sold off, shut down or converted into new supermarket banners or other brands. Westfield Hornsby is a large indoor/outdoor shopping centre in the suburb of Hornsby on the Upper North Shore of Sydney. History The original Westfield Hornsby known as Westfield Plaza opened in July 1961. The centre featured McDowells (later rebranded as Waltons and then Venture), Coles New World and 25 stores.
