Libra Party
The Libra Party or ''Equal List'' () is a political party in Albania. It was founded in 2016. History The party was founded by Ben Blushi, a prominent politician/writer, and Mimoza Hafizi; both former MPs of the Socialist Party of Albania. They left the Socialist Party after months of discussions with the leader Edi Rama and opposed the government's decisions. The pair wanted elections to be held within the party to elect a new leader. In October 2016, after leaving the party they created LIBRA, which in Albanian is an acronym for 'Lista e Barabartë' (The equal list). Currently both Ben Blushi and Mimoza Hafizi serve as Members of the National Assembly from the LIBRA Party. Ideology Libra means Knowledge, Freedom and Balance. Ben Blushi
Ben Blushi (born 1 January 1969) is an Albanian politician, writer and journalist. Biography Ben Blushi, born in Tirana, studied at the University of Tirana, graduating in Albanian language and literature. He was editor-in-chief of the newspaper ''Koha Jonë''. His works deal with Albanian history and contemporary Albania. In April 2008, Ben Blushi published his first novel ''Të jetosh në ishull'' (''Living on an Island''). Within a couple of months, the book had sold over 30,000 copies, a record for the Albanian market. The novel covers Albanian history under the Ottoman Empire (15th–18th centuries), with a broad and not uncontroversial treatment of the country's Islamization. His second novel, ''Othello, The Moor of Vlora'' won the European Union Prize for Literature in 2014. 2017 Albanian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Albania on 25 June. They had initially been scheduled for 18 June, but after a possible boycott was announced by opposition parties during a political crisis that lasted three months, an agreement was reached between all parties on 18 May to change the date. The Socialist Party won 74 of the 140 seats. Background The previous parliamentary elections were held on 23 June 2013 and resulted in a victory for the Socialist Party of Albania-led Alliance for a European Albania, which received 57.6% of the vote, winning 83 of the 140 seats. The opposition Alliance for Employment, Prosperity and Integration headed by Lulzim Basha of the Democratic Party received almost 39.5% of the vote and won the other 57 seats. The Parliament of Albania () or Kuvendi is the unicameral representative body of the citizens of the Republic of Albania; it is Albania's legislature. The Parliament is composed of no less than 140 members elected to a four-year term on the basis of direct, universal, periodic and equal suffrage by secret ballot. Civic nationalism, otherwise known as democratic nationalism, is a form of nationalism that adheres to traditional liberal values of freedom, tolerance, equality, and individual rights, and is not based on ethnocentrism. Civic nationalists often defend the value of national identity by saying that individuals need it as a partial shared aspect of their identity (an upper identity) in order to lead meaningful, autonomous lives and that democratic polities need a national identity to function properly. Edi Rama (born Edvin Kristaq Rama; 4 July 1964) is an Albanian politician, artist and writer who has been serving as the 33rd and incumbent prime minister of Albania since 2013 and chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. He was Ministry of Culture (Albania), Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from 1998 to 2000. First elected mayor of Tirana in 2000, he was reelected in 2003 and 2007. Mimoza Hafizi
Mimoza Hafizi (born 1962) is an Albanian politician and physicist who is a former member of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania for the Libra Party (Albania), LIBRA Party. She has been representing the Socialist Party of Albania, Socialist Party from 2013 until 2016. In October 2016, together with Ben Blushi, she created LIBRA. She failed to win a second mandate on the Albanian parliamentary election, 2017, 2017 election. She was born on 20 February 1962 in Shkodër.
