Levenslied
Levenslied ( Dutch, literally "life song" or "song about life") is a sentimental Dutch-language subgenre of popular music. ''Levenslied'' lyrics can be sweet or bitter, light and sentimental, but also reflective and dark, about subjects such as love, misery and far-away, sunny, exotic holiday places. The darker, more sentimental songs are also known as "smartlap" ("sorrow bandage", or tearjerker). The levenslied is related to the ''chanson'' though for a lower-class audience, like the schlager. A typical levenslied has catchy, simple rhythms and melodies and is built up in couplets and refrains. Traditional musical instruments in levenslied music are the accordion and the barrel organ. Modern levenslied artists also use synthesizers and guitars. The songs are usually in Dutch but also English or Italian. Peter Blanker
Peter Blanker (born 11 June 1939 in Delfshaven) is a Dutch singer and Artist. Blanker sings and writes in the ''Levenslied'' genre, a somewhat sentimental popular genre, and teaches the writing of such songs. Many of his songs dealt with his birthplace (Delfshaven) and his later domicile (Rotterdam). He scored a minor hit in 1981 with a translation of a Mac Davis song, and for eleven years had a radio show dedicated to the ''Levenslied''. Biography Blanker began a career as a singer in 1961, after working as a sailor, grape picker, and journalist. He was inspired by the French chansonnier Georges Brassens and his Dutch counterpart Jules de Corte. In the 1960s Blanker worked in Cabaret, and from 1975 to 1978 acted and sang in the children's television show '' De Holle Bolle Boom'', which aired on AVRO television, working with Leontien Ceulemans, Hans Otjes, and Maria Lindes, under the musical direction of Tonny Eyk. André Hazes
André Gerardus Hazes (30 June 1951 – 23 September 2004) was a Dutch singer and actor. As an accomplished levenslied singer, Hazes recorded 36 studio and live albums, and 55 singles prior to his death in 2004. His music is still well-known in the Netherlands and Flanders, known for sentimental and simple lyrics. His biggest hits include "Eenzame Kerst" (1976), "Een Beetje Verliefd" (1981), "Ik Meen 't" (1985), "Wij Houden van Oranje" (1988), "Bloed, Zweet en Tranen" (2002), "Zij Gelooft in Mij" (Originally from 1981, re-recorded and released in 1999, re-released after his death in 2004) and "Blijf Bij Mij" (a virtual duet with Gerard Joling, 2007). Pierre Kartner
Petrus Antonius Laurentius Kartner (11 April 1935 – 8 November 2022) was a Dutch musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who performed under the stage name Vader Abraham (''Father Abraham''). He wrote around 1600 songs. Early life and songwriting Kartner was born on 11 April 1935. He started his singing career at the age of eight, winning a local festival. He lived with his family in Amsterdam and worked in a chocolate factory. Kartner worked as a promoter and producer at a record label Dureco with Annie de Reuver, with whom he formed Duo X. Johnny Jordaan was the pseudonym for Johannes Hendricus van Musscher (7 February 1924 – 8 January 1989), a Dutch singer of popular music, in particular the genre known as '' levenslied'', a Dutch variety of the French ''chanson''. Willy Albertina Verbrugge (born 3 February 1945), known as Willeke Alberti, is a Dutch singer and actress, the daughter of entertainer and singer Willy Alberti (1926–1985) and Hendrika Geertruida Kuiper (1921–2011). Carel Verbrugge (14 October 1926 – 18 February 1985), known as Willy Alberti, was a Dutch singer, who sang in Dutch and Italian. He was also an actor and a radio and TV personality. Alberti was born in Amsterdam as the third of eight children to Jacobus Wilhelm Verbrugge and Sophia Jacoba van Musscher. He sang with family members at a very young age. He began recording professionally in the early 1940s. In 1944 he married Ria Kuiper, and his daughter Willeke Alberti, later to become a successful Dutch vocalist herself, was born in 1945.
