Leroy Young
Leroy Young, (born August 7, 1967 in Belize City, Belize), otherwise known as "The Grandmaster", is a Belizean dub poet. Biography and arts career Young was born to Bernadean Young and attended St. Mary's Primary and the former St. Michael's College, now amalgamated into Anglican Cathedral College (ACC). He briefly starred in rap group Fresh Breeze with the Morgan Brothers, Kenny and Turbo, but eventually became addicted to drugs and got into various misdeeds, resulting in a trip to rehab after twice attempting to commit suicide. In the late 1990s, after spending time in prison and drug rehabilitation, he turned to poetry and received a segment in the news broadcast on Channel 7 television station, improvising poems about stories in the news and whatever else. He parlayed his time on Channel 7 into two books of poetry, '' Made in Pinks Alley'' and ''Generation X''. His debut album '' Just Like That...'' was released on Stonetree Records in 2004. Belize City
Belize City is the largest city in Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City has a population of 57,169 people in 16,162 households. It is at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, which is a distributary of the Belize River. The Belize River empties into the Caribbean Sea from Belize City on the Philip Goldson Highway on the coast of the Caribbean. The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tendered by local citizens. The city was almost entirely destroyed in October 1961 when Hurricane Hattie swept ashore. Angela Gegg
Angela Gegg (born November 1979 in Belize City, Belize) is a Belizean artist, author, entertainer, and real estate expert. Gegg has created music and visual artwork. She has participated in six major solo art shows and more than twenty joint art shows and exhibits in Belize, Texas, New York, Miami, and Trinidad. She has also published her poetry, and is a regular stage performer of the spoken word at events, shows and festivals throughout the country of Belize. She lives in Dubai, UAE where she works as a commercial real estate agent. Writing Gegg has published the poetry anthologies ''The Light, the Dark, and Everything in Between'' in 2006, and ''Artist Confessions'', which was released in connection with her solo exhibition "Impulse" in 2009. Gegg is also spoken word artist and considered to be one of Belize's foremost artistic voices. Positive Vibes FM (call-sign VPV-FM) is a private radio station in Belize and the radio arm of the Opposition People's United Party. History Positive Vibes FM originally started as FM 2000 in 1994, owned by Gerald Garbutt. Its primary signal was 90.5 FM and secondary signal 102.9 FM. FM 2000, advertised as the "21st century radio station", began operations on November 24, 1994, on Coney Drive in Belize City, upstairs of the Body 2000 gym. It focused mostly on the urban demographic with modern music including rap, hip hop and reggae, mixed with other contemporary music. Among its most popular DJs were media veterans Adrian Harris, Mike Nicholson, Ed Yorke and G. Michael Reid. Later popular DJs included Karil Wallace. All of the above had left FM 2000 by 2005. People's United Party
The People's United Party (PUP) is one of two major political parties in Belize. It is currently the governing party of Belize after success in the 2020 Belizean general election, winning a majority of 26 seats out of 31 in the Belizean House of Representatives. It is a centre-left Christian democratic party. The party leader is Johnny Briceño, who currently serves as the Prime Minister of Belize.
