Leila Hoffman
Leila Hoffman (''née'' Rothstein; born 11 June 1934) is an English comedian, actress and writer. Personal life Hoffman is the daughter of Esther (née Schaewitch) (1906–1992) and Joseph "Joe" Rothstein, both children of Russian Jews. She has one sister, Sybil Fox, who is four years her senior. In 1960, Leila married Alfred Hoffman in Brighton, where the Rothstein family had relocated to sometime after Leila's birth. Recent work Hoffman starred in BBC Three sitcom, ''How Not to Live Your Life'' as Dot Treacher, the widowed neighbour. She has also appeared in several online BBC comedy sketches with the group This is Wondervision. The London Borough of Hackney ( ) is a London boroughs, London borough in Inner London, England. The historical and administrative heart of Hackney is Mare Street, which lies north-east of Charing Cross. The borough is named after Hackney, London, Hackney, its principal district. ''Hearts of Gold'' was a BBC television programme devised and presented by Esther Rantzen, with Michael Groth, Mike Smith and Carol Smillie as co-presenters. Running for six years in the 1980s and 1990s, the programme commended members of the public for their good deeds. Rantzen devised the show in 1988. The premise of the show was to commend those who had done good deeds to others. They would usually be tricked into appearing on the show using a practical joke, a device which some critics (such as ''The Independent''s Geraldine Bedell) compared to '' Beadle's About''. Journalist Bedell explains that participants "are inviegled into the studio under false pretences and presented with gold hearts on blue ribbons while they wonder where to put themselves. ''Bad Education'' is a British television sitcom set in a dysfunctional secondary school broadcast on BBC Three.
