''Legendary Amazons'' is a 2011 Chinese historical drama, historical drama film directed by Frankie Chan and written by Chan, Liu Heng and Ma Honglu. The film is based on the Yang Jia Jiang#Stories of the Yang clan, stories of the Yang Clan Generals. It stars Richie Jen, Cecilia Cheung, Cheng Pei-pei, Liu Xiaoqing, and Kathy Chow. She Saihua (佘賽花) is a legendary heroine from ancient China's Northern Song Dynasty. Yang Yanzhao (楊延昭; 958 – 9 February 1014), named Yang Yanlang (楊延朗) before 1012, was a military general in ancient China's Northern Song dynasty. For over two decades he defended Song's northern border against the Khitan-ruled Liao dynasty, helping Song thwart Liao's repeated invasion attempts between 999 and 1004. Fan Zhongyan (5 September 989 – 19 June 1052), courtesy name Xiwen (), was an accomplished statesman, writer, scholar, and reformer of the northern Song dynasty. After serving multiple regional posts and at the imperial court for over two decades, Fan was appointed as a vice chancellor by Emperor Renzong to lead the Qingli reforms. Although short-lived, the Qingli reforms and Fan Zhongyan's ideas inspired later reformers, most notably Wang Anshi. Pang Ji () (988–1063) was a Chinese politician who lived during the Northern Song Dynasty. He was the chancellor from 1051 to 1053 during Emperor Renzong's reign. Biography After passing the imperial examination in 1015, Pang Ji gradually moved his way up the official ranks. He successfully took control in Yanzhou (in today's Shaanxi province) after Western Xia troops took a few cities from Song. Pang Ji is known for instilling discipline in the troops; violations of the code were met with severe physical punishments including deaths.
