Dire Straits were a British Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (lead vocals, lead guitar), David Knopfler (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), John Illsley (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Pick Withers (drums, percussion). Stephen White (born 1948) is an American science fiction author best known as the co-author of the ''Starfire'' series along with David Weber. He is married with three daughters and currently lives in Florida. He worked for many years as a writer at a legal publishing company. He previously served as a United States Navy officer and served during the Vietnam War and in the Mediterranean region.
