Latency (engineering)
Latency, from a general point of view, is a time delay between the Causality, cause and the effect of some physical change in the system being observed. Lag (video games), Lag, as it is known in Gaming culture, gaming circles, refers to the latency between the input to a simulation and the visual or auditory response, often occurring because of network delay in online games. The original meaning of “latency”, as used widely in psychology, medicine and most other disciplines, derives from “latent”, a word of Latin origin meaning “hidden”.  Its different and relatively recent meaning (this topic) of “lateness” or “delay” appears to derive from its superficial similarity to the word “late”, from the old English “laet”. Latency is physically a consequence of the limited velocity at which any Event (relativity), physical interaction can propagate. The magnitude of this velocity is always less than or equal to the speed of light. Therefore, every physical s ...

Latency (audio)
Latency refers to a short period of delay (usually measured in milliseconds) between when an audio signal enters a system, and when it emerges. Potential contributors to latency in an audio system include analog-to-digital conversion, buffering, digital signal processing, transmission time, digital-to-analog conversion, and the speed of sound in the transmission medium. Latency can be a critical performance metric in professional audio including sound reinforcement systems, foldback systems (especially those using in-ear monitors) live radio and television. Excessive audio latency has the potential to degrade call quality in telecommunications applications. Low latency audio in computers is important for interactivity. Telephone calls In all systems, latency can be said to consist of three elements: codec delay, playout delay and network delay. Latency in telephone calls is sometimes referred to as delay; the telecommunications industry also uses the term ''quality of exp ...

The Latency
The Latency was a Canadian pop rock group from Maple Ridge, British Columbia. The band formed in 2006 and signed with MapleMusic Recordings, before releasing their debut self-titled album on September 8, 2009. In 2010, they began working on their second studio album, before the group disbanded in 2011. The band consisted of rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist Brandon Lehti, lead guitarist Ryan Stead, bassist Mathew Gendron and drummer Jonny Wiebe. History Vocalist Brandon Lehti, guitarist Ryan Stead and bassist Mathew Gendron were 15 when they met at a Battle of Bands contest, while attending Garibaldi Secondary School. They decided to form the band in 2006, after their separate bands broke up. Lehti started on drums before moving up as the band's vocalist while Jonny Wiebe joined as the drummer. The name, "The Latency" was thought of by the band which refers to potential energy. The group was discovered by bassist Tommy Mac of Hedley, who helped produced their debut album. ...
