Their tendency is conservative, is the first Chilean newspaper to disclose information that occurred in the morning because it is evening. Its time distribution is from 14:00. (initially called ) first appeared as a nightly on July 29, 1931, as an update of the then evening , due to the overabundance of information originated during the fall of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo. The newspaper is remembered for its opposition to the government of Salvador Allende and its accession to the military regime. Operation Colombo
Operation Colombo, or the Case of the 119, was an operation undertaken by the DINA (the Chilean secret police) in 1975 to make political dissidents disappear. At least 119 people are alleged to have been abducted and later killed. The objective of the operation was to deceive national and international public opinion—through the publication of false information in media outlets in Chile and abroad—that the disappeared had died in clashes with foreign security forces or had been victims of internal purges. Revolutionary Left Movement (Chile)
The Revolutionary Left Movement (, MIR) is a Chilean far-left Marxist-Leninist communist party and former urban guerrilla organization founded on 12 October 1965. At its height in 1973, the MIR numbered about 10,000 members and associates. The group emerged from various student organizations, mainly from University of Concepción, that had originally been active in the youth organization of the Socialist Party. They established a base of support among the trade unions and shantytowns of Concepción, Santiago, and other cities. Carlos Ibáñez Del Campo
General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (; 3 November 1877 – 28 April 1960) was a Chilean Army officer and political figure. He served as president twice, first between 1927 and 1931, and then from 1952 to 1958, serving for 10 years in office. Early life Carlos Ibáñez del Campo was born to Francisco Ibáñez and María Nieves del Campo. On his father's side, his family descended from the Irish captain, John Augustine Evans, a native of Galway, who arrived in Chile in 1730 after the shipwreck of HMS Wager on the island of the same name, and who Hispanicized his surname. Captain Evans contacted Ambrosio O'Higgins, Governor of Linares, who entrusted him with the administration of the Royal Treasury of Perquilauquén.
