L. A. Ring
Laurits Andersen Ring (; 15 August 1854 – 10 September 1933) was one of the foremost Danish painters of the turn of the 20th century, who pioneered both symbolism and social realism in Denmark. Considered one of the masterpieces of Danish culture, his painting '' Summer Day by Roskilde Fjord'' was included in the 2006 Danish Culture Canon. Life Ring was born as Laurits Andersen in a village named Ring in southern Zealand. Ring's parents were wheelmaker and carpenter Anders Olsen (1816–83) and farmer's daughter Johanne Andersdatter (1814–95). In 1869, he became a painter's apprentice because his older brother was to take over the father's workshop. In 1873, while working in Copenhagen Laurits decided to take classes in painting, and after two years of private studies he was accepted at the Danish Academy of Arts in 1875 and studied briefly with painter P. Knud Larsen
Knud Erik Larsen (27 August 1865 – 7 December 1922) was a Danish painter. Biography Born in Vinderød near Frederiksværk, Denmark. He was the son of Jens Peter Larsen (1826–97) and Julie Sophie Olsen (1826–97). Larsen studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1889. He first exhibited at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1887. Larsen exhibited at the World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893, the General Art and Industrial Exposition of Stockholm in 1897 and the Baltic Exhibition at Malmö in 1914. Larsen travel to England 1889; Berlin and Dresden 1891; Italy 1898; Paris, the Netherlands, Belgium 1899. Larsen originally painted landscapes and genre images. He adopted a rather conservative but pleasant style which was particularly effective in his landscapes of the Jutland countryside. Johan Lundbye
Johan Thomas Lundbye (1 September 1818 – 25 April 1848) was a Danish painter and graphic artist, known for his animal and landscape paintings. He was inspired by Niels Laurits Høyen's call to develop nationalistic art through depictions of Denmark's characteristic landscapes; the historical buildings and monuments, and the country's simple, rural people. He became one of his generation's national romantic painters, along with P. C. Skovgaard and Lorenz Frølich, to regularly depict the landscape of Zealand. Hirschsprung Collection
The Hirschsprung Collection ( Danish: Den Hirschsprungske Samling) is an art museum located on Stockholmsgade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located in a parkland setting in Østre Anlæg, near the Danish National Gallery, and houses a large collection of Danish art from the 19th and early 20th century. The emphasis is on the Danish Golden Age, from 1800 to 1850, but also the Skagen Painters and other representatives of the Modern Breakthrough are well represented. The museum is built around the personal art collection of Heinrich Hirschsprung, a tobacco manufacturer and patron of the arts who founded his art collection in 1865. Peter Hertz
Peter Julius Hertz (1 June 1874 in Copenhagen – 26 March 1939) was a Danish art historian and museum worker. Peter Hertz was the son of Julius Hertz (1842–1920), a wholesale merchant, and his wife Henriette F. Hertz (1850–1921). Hertz became a graduate student at a private college in 1893 and took many philosophy courses. Until 1896, he attended a technological school, while he worked as a bricklayer and learned how to be an architect. Then he began independent art historical studies and eventually went to study in 1899 on a three-year trip to Germany and Italy. In 1901, he worked in London, but he began to travel for his studies in 1903, primarily in Italy, but also in the Netherlands. During those years, he focused on Classical Architecture, obtaining a Doctorate in Philosophy. Roskilde ( , ) is a city west of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Zealand. With a population of 51,916 (), the city is a business and educational centre for the region and the 10th largest city in Denmark. The Exposition Universelle of 1900, better known in English as the 1900 Paris Exposition, was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 14 April to 12 November 1900, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next.
