Kégham Atmadjian
Kegham Mihran Atmadjian ( hy, Գեղամ Միհրանի Աթմաճյան, literary pseudonym ''Sema'', November 18, 1910 – May 18, 1940) was a French-Armenian poet and editor. Biography Being a survivor of the Armenian genocide, Atmadjian lived in orphanages in Turkey and Aleppo. In 1929 he moved to Paris, where he published the Armenian cultural magazine "Jank" (Effort), together with Missak Manouchian. In 1935–1937 he published another Armenian magazine, "Mshaguyt" (Culture), with Bedros Zaroyan. He was the author of poems, plays, short stories, and articles. In 1940 he was killed during his service in the French army at the outbreak of World War II. His sister Marie Atmadjian, a poet by herself, wrote memoirs about him. Bafra
Bafra is a district of Samsun Province of Turkey. It is a settlement located from the Black Sea, in the fertile delta of the Kızılırmak River. The Bafra Plain is famous in Turkey for its rich soil and high quality tobacco growing conditions. The city is well known in Turkey for its ice cream, cigarettes, tobacco and agricultural produce. In 2020, the district reported a population of 143,366. The city is located 52 km northwest of Samsun and is connected by State road D.010. History The name of the municipality is thought to have come from the Phoenician name "bafira" or "bavra". Other beliefs about the etymology of the region come from the name "Ba-Hura" (Great River) given to Kizilirmak which generates the delta upon which the city is located. Armenian Genocide Survivors
Armenian genocide survivors are Western Armenians who were not killed in the genocide of 1915. Most of the survivors became refugees outside Turkey, the successor state of the Ottoman Empire. Other survivors are the non-Ottoman Armenians who resided or travelled through the Ottoman Empire, were spared on personal orders of Talaat Pasha after an Armenian with US citizenship was murdered in a prison in Diyarbakır. About 70,000 Armenians remain in Turkey, mostly in Istanbul. This figure does not include an unknown number of assimilated Crypto-Armenians. Distribution According to the US State Department, in 1922 there were 817,873 Armenian refugees who had originated from Turkey. This figure was based upon information provided by the British Embassy in Constantinople and 1921 data from the Near East Relief Society.
