Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as " district" in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. Mogilev Region or Mogilev Oblast or Mahiliow Voblasts ( be, link=no, Магілёўская вобласць; ''Mahiloŭskaja voblasć''; russian: link=no, Могилёвская область; ''Mogilyovskaya Oblast''), is a region (''oblast'') of Belarus with its administrative center at Mogilev (Mahilyow). Viera Cierliukievič (, also known as Vera Tserlukevich; 13 October 1941 – 31 December 2000) was one of the most prominent Belarusian female political and trade union activists in the 1990s, identified among “heroic women in the history of Belarus”.
