Koninklijke Nederlandse Lawn Tennis Bond
The Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association ( nl, Koninklijke Nederlandse Lawn Tennis Bond) (KNLTB) is the national governing body of tennis in the Netherlands. It was constituted in 1899 in Amsterdam by 15 Dutch tennis associations as the Dutch Lawn Tennis Association and received the description "royal" upon its 40th birthday. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. International Tennis Federation
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis. It was founded in 1913 as the International Lawn Tennis Federation by twelve national tennis associations. Tennis Europe (formerly known as the European Tennis Association) was formed in Rome, Italy on 31 May 1975 by a group of 17 European national tennis federations as a regional governing body for the sport of tennis and under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation. It is the world's largest regional association of the sport's governing body, the International Tennis Federation, with 50 member states in 2015. The Netherlands Billie Jean King Cup team represents the Netherlands in the Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Lawn Tennis Bond. They currently compete in World Group II. Current team ''Most recent year-end rankings are used.'' History The Netherlands competed in its first Fed Cup in 1963. Their best result was reaching the final in 1968, losing 3-0 to Australia, and 1997, losing 4-1 to France with Brenda Schultz-McCarthy winning her singles match against Mary Pierce. In 1998, the team was relegated to the Europe/Africa Zone Group I, where they spent nearly all their time through 2013.
