Kirti M. Doongursee College (also known as Kirti M. Doongursee College of Arts, Science and Commerce and Kirti College) is located in Dadar (West), Mumbai-400028 Maharashtra, India. History The college was founded by the Deccan Education Society as Bombay College. The foundation stone was laid by Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve and the college started operating in 1954. In 1960, Bombay College was renamed ''Kirti M. Doongursee College'' in a ceremony in the presence of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President of India. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and offers an extensive range of courses. One of its most well known alumni is Sachin Tendulkar, whose father Ramesh Tendulkar used to teach at the college. Dhondo Keshav Karve
'' Dhondo Keshav Karve (18 April 1858 – 9 November 1962), popularly known as Maharshi Karve, was a social reformer in India in the field of women's welfare. He advocated widow remarriage and he himself married a widow. Karve was a pioneer in promoting widows' education. He founded the first women's university in India - SNDT Women's University . The Government of India awarded him with the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1958, the year of his 100th birthday.He organized a conference against the practice of devdasi. He started 'Anath balikashram' an orphanage for girls. His intention was to give education to all women and make them stand on their own feet. Anjali Bhagwat (born 5 December 1969) is a professional Indian sport shooter. She became the World Number One in 10m Air Rifle in 2002. She also won her first World Cup Final in Milan, in 2003, with a score of 399/400. Anjali won the ISSF Champion of Champions award and is the only Indian to win the ISSF Champions' Trophy in Air Rifle Men & Women mixed event at Munich in 2002. She has represented India in three consecutive Olympics, and was a finalist in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, a first for any Indian women shooter and also the first Indian athlete to make an Olympic final since P.T. Manohar Arjun Surve (8 August 1944 – 11 January 1982), popularly known as Manya Surve, was an Indian Underworld Don in Bombay. Amol Anil Muzumdar (born 11 November 1974) was an Indian cricketer, domestically, having previously played for Mumbai and Assam. He was primarily a right-handed batsman.
