King Of Ailech
The Kings of Ailech were the over-kings of the medieval Irish province of Ailech in north-western Ireland. It encompassed the territories of the Cenél nEógain and Cenél Conaill. After the battle of Cloítech in 789 its kings were exclusively from the Cenél nEógain. Eochaid Mac Domnaill
Eochaid mac Domnaill (died 572), also Eochaid Find ("the fair"), was an Irish king who is included in some lists as a High King of Ireland. He was the son of Domnall Ilchelgach (died 566) and grandson of Muirchertach mac Muiredaig (died 534), also considered high kings. He was a member of the Cenél nEógain branch of the northern Uí Néill. He ruled in Ailech from 565 to 571. The high kingship of Ireland rotated between the Cenél nEógain and Cenél Conaill branches in the late 6th century. Eochaid ruled jointly with his uncle Báetán mac Muirchertaig (died 572) from 569. The middle Irish king lists have misplaced their reign putting it earlier than the annalistic tradition but other king lists have them in the correct order. They are also omitted from the earliest list of Kings of Tara, the '' Baile Chuind'' (The Ecstasy of Conn), a late 7th-century Irish poem. Crundmáel Mac Suibni
Crundmáel mac Suibni (died c. 660) was a King of Ailech and head of the Cenél nEógain branch of the northern Uí Néill. He was the son of the high king of Ireland Suibne Menn (died 628). According to the ''Laud Synchronisms'' he succeeded his uncle Ernaine mac Fiachnai (died 636) and ruled for 24 years which gives a possible reign of 636-660 as King of Ailech. In 637 the naval Battle of Sailtir was fought between the Cenél nEógain and the Dál Riata on one side and the Cenél Conaill on the other with the victory going to the Cenél Conaill. They were acting as allies of Congal Cáech, King of Ulaid versus the high king Domnall mac Áedo (died 642) of the Cenél Conaill. It is probable that this was Cenél maic Ercae branch of the Cenél nEógain and not the Cenél Feradaig branch to which Crundmáel belonged as Congal Cáech had slain his father Suibne in 628. Máel Fithrich Mac Áedo
Máel Fithrich mac Áedo (died 630) was a King of Ailech and head of the Cenél nEógain branch of the northern Uí Néill. He was the son of the high king of Ireland Áed Uaridnach (died 612). He ruled in Ailech from 628 to 630. The branch of the Cenél nEógain that he belonged to was called the Cenél maic Ercae and they had dominated the kingship of Ailech until the reign of his predecessor Suibne Menn (died 628) of the Cenél Feradaig branch.
