Kim Wimmer
Kimberly Marie "Kim" Wimmer (born 1970/1971) is an American actress, singer, and educator from Mobile, Alabama, who was crowned Miss Alabama 1992. She competed for the Miss America 1993 title and won the pageant's Quality of Life Award. She co-starred in the Comedy Central series ''Strip Mall''. Career As an actress, Wimmer has appeared on stage and screen. She began her acting career working in Disney shows in Florida, Japan, New York and California. She appeared off-Broadway in ''Mr. Pimm Passes By'' as well as at regional theaters around the country, including Yale Rep (''First Lady'') and Indiana Rep (world premiere of ''Les Trois Dumas''). She is best known for her co-starring role as "Elyce Cantwell" in the Comedy Central sitcom ''Strip Mall'' for two seasons from 2000 through 2001 and her role in the 1999 comedy film ''Lucid Days in Hell''. Miss Alabama
The Miss Alabama competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Alabama in the annual Miss America Competition. Alabama has won three Miss America titles: Deidre Downs in 2005, Heather Whitestone (the first deaf woman to win the Miss America crown) in 1995, and Yolande Betbeze in 1951. Betbeze is also known as the contestant who refused to pose in a swimsuit, causing swimsuit sponsor Catalina Swimwear to pull out and ultimately start the Miss USA pageant. Lindsay Fincher of Wedowee was crowned Miss Alabama 2022 on July 3, 2022 at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama. Distinguished Young Women
Distinguished Young Women, formerly known as America's Junior Miss, is a national non-profit organization that provides scholarship opportunities to high school senior girls. Depending on the schedule of the various state and local programs, young women are eligible during the summer preceding their senior year in high school. This program is designed to provide young women with the opportunity and support needed to succeed before, during, and after attending college. In addition, through the Distinguished Young Women Life Skills program, which includes workshops and online resources, participants can learn skills like interviewing, public speaking, self-confidence building and much more. Kalyn Chapman James is an American model, television host, and beauty pageant titleholder from Mobile, Alabama, who was crowned Miss Alabama in 1993, the first African American to win the pageant. Yolande Margaret Betbeze Fox (November 28, 1928 – February 22, 2016) was an American singer and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss America 1951. Early life Betbeze was born on November 28, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama, to William, a butcher, and Ethel Betbeze. Betbeze was raised in a Catholic family of French Basque descent, and she attended convent schools. Career She captured her first crown in 1949 when she won Mobile's "Miss Torch" pageant. In 1950, Fox (then Betbeze) entered Miss Alabama for the scholarship opportunities the pageant presented. As Miss Alabama, she traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey, to compete in the Miss America 1951 pageant. Having been educated in a convent school, she was reluctant to pose in a swimsuit and refused to do so after she won Miss America.
