Khangri (The Mountain)
''Khangri'' or ''Gangri'' (literally: ''The Snowy Mountain'') (Sherpa: , Wylie: ''Gangs ri'') is the first Sherpa language movie which was released in 2052 Bs (1996) in Nepal. Synopsis Pemba, who used to climb, returns to his native village Khumbu, in the foothills of Everest, after spending ten years abroad. To his surprise he finds tremendous changes have taken place due to tourism and mountaineering. One-day Pemba goes to the Tengboche Monastery to pray and to his amazement he meets his old girlfriend Yangjin dressed as a Buddhist nun. Deeply distressed, Pemba promises to meet her again and then he goes to Namche Bazaar where he finds Lhakpa Doma, the wife of an old colleague whose husband died in a mountaineering accident, which Pemba survived. Pasang, the widow's only son, wishes to follow in his father's footsteps and his mother asks Pemba to come to her house and dissuade Pasang from joining the expedition to Everest. Nabin Subba
Nabin Subba ( Limbu) (born 14 December 1967) is a Nepalese film director, screenwriter and producer. He is generally regarded as a leading figure and pioneer of the "Fourth Cinema" movement in Nepalese cinema, making the film base on Nepalese indigenous community. His works '' Khangri'' and '' Numafung'' were awarded in many film festivals around the globe. His last major project was ''Goodbye Kathmandu'', which is due for release soon. He also directed a 52-episode TV serial called ''Dalan'', about Dalit (the untouchables in Nepal), which he completed in 2006 and which aired from NTV 2008/2009. Sherpa Language
Sherpa (also Sharpa, Xiaerba, or Sherwa) is a Tibetic language spoken in Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim, mainly by the Sherpa. The majority speakers of the Sherpa language live in the Khumbu region of Nepal, spanning from the Chinese (Tibetan) border in the east to the Bhotekosi River in the west. About 200,000 speakers live in Nepal (2001 census), some 20,000 in Sikkim (1997) and some 800 in Tibetan Autonomous Region (1994). Sherpa is a subject-object-verb (SOV) language. Wylie Transliteration
Wylie transliteration is a method for transliterating Tibetan script using only the letters available on a typical English-language typewriter. The system is named for the American scholar Turrell V. Wylie, who created the system and published it in a 1959 '' Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies'' article. It has subsequently become a standard transliteration scheme in Tibetan studies, especially in the United States. Any Tibetan language romanization scheme faces the dilemma of whether it should seek to accurately reproduce the sounds of spoken Tibetan or the spelling of written Tibetan. Khumbu (also known as the Everest Region) is a region of northeastern Nepal on the Nepalese side of Mount Everest. Tengboche Monastery
Tengboche Monastery (or Thyangboche Monastery), also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, in the Tengboche village in Khumjung in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the Sherpa community. Situated at , the monastery is the largest gompa in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It was built in 1916 by Lama Gulu with strong links to its mother monastery known as the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. In 1934, it was destroyed by an earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt. Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar (also Namche Bazar, Nemche Bazaar or Namche Baza; ne, नाम्चे बजार) is a town (formally Namche Village Development Committee) in Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu District of Province No. 1 of north-eastern Nepal.
