Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
UNIT stands for United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, a fictional entity in '' Doctor Who''. UNIT first appeared in the Second Doctor serial '' The Invasion'', (1968), although Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart had appeared earlier in ''The Web of Fear'' (1968) as a colonel. UNIT went on to feature in many Third Doctor stories, as the Doctor is shown being exiled to Earth in ''Spearhead from Space'' (1970), and becomes UNIT's Scientific Advisor following the Auton attack. The Doctor would maintain this post in subsequent incarnations. UNIT is a large organisation and many personnel have featured in ''Doctor Who'' over the years. ''Battlefield'' is the first serial of the 26th season of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in four weekly parts on BBC1 from 6 to 27 September 1989. It was the last to feature Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in ''Doctor Who''. In the serial, Morgaine ( Jean Marsh), a sorceress from another dimension, summons the planet-devouring Destroyer (Marek Anton) in England, where she also seeks to take the sword Excalibur for herself. The Dying Days
''The Dying Days'' is an original novel written by Lance Parkin and based on the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It was last of the New Adventures range to feature the Doctor and the only one of that range to feature Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor. Thereafter the series centred on the character of Bernice Summerfield. ''The Dying Days'' features the classic series monsters, the Ice Warriors and is strongly influenced by ''The War of the Worlds''. The Conservative MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Collins, was reported to have read the book in one sitting on the night of the 1997 General Election so that he could claim to have read the whole New Adventures series whilst the Conservatives were in government. ''Head Games'' is an original novel written by Steve Lyons and based on the long-running British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who''. It features the Seventh Doctor, Bernice, Chris, Roz, Mel and Ace. ''Head Games'' is a sequel to Lyons' earlier ''New Adventure'' '' Conundrum'', and again features the Land of Fiction first seen the 1968 serial '' The Mind Robber''. The ''Virgin New Adventures'' (NA series, or NAs) are a series of novels from Virgin Publishing based on the British science-fiction television series ''Doctor Who''.
