Karl Bovin
Karl (Kalle) Christian Bovin (1907–1985) was a Danish painter whose work focused on landscapes of Odsherred, a region in the north-west of Zealand. In the 1930s, he became a central member in the Odsherred Painters artists' colony and helped to found the Corner artists association. Biography Bovin was born in Frederikshavn, as the eldest son of a stone mason. From an early age, he was interested in art. In the 1920s, he cycled to the artists paradise Skagen in the north of Jutland to show his early works to Anna and Michael Ancher. At their encouragement, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1928 to 1931, where he studied under Sigurd Wandel and Aksel Jørgensen. During his time at school, he associated with a group of constructivists who relied on intuition and observation, but eventually expressed dissatisfaction with their approach to art. Art Of Denmark
Danish art is the visual arts produced in Denmark or by Danish artists. It goes back thousands of years with significant artifacts from the 2nd millennium BC, such as the Trundholm sun chariot. For many early periods, it is usually considered as part of the wider Nordic art of Scandinavia. Art from what is today Denmark forms part of the art of the Nordic Bronze Age, and then Norse and Viking art. Danish medieval painting is almost entirely known from church frescos such as those from the 16th-century artist known as the Elmelunde Master. The Reformation greatly disrupted Danish artistic traditions, and left the existing body of painters and sculptors without large markets. Corner Painters
The Corner painters in Denmark first came together in 1932 when they decided to hold an exhibition in a meeting hall inside an office building on the corner of Vester Voldgade and Studiestræde in the centre of Copenhagen. The group was soon referred to simply as Corner. Among its earlier members were Karl Bovin, Victor Brockdorff, Povl Christensen, Kaj Ejstrup, Lauritz Hartz, Alfred Simonsen, Viggo Rørup and Erik Raadal. Birthe Bovin
Berthe (Birthe) Marie Marensine Bovin (31 January 1906 – 12 August 1980) was a self-taught Danish painter who joined the artists' colony in northwestern Zealand known as the Odsherred Painters. Biography The daughter of a fisherman, Bovin was born in Kerteminde on the island of Funen. In 1933, she married the poet Sigfred Pedersen but the marriage was dissolved in 1943. From the 1940s, Bovin lived in Odsherred Odsherred is a peninsula in the north-western part of the island Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark. Fritz Syberg
Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Syberg, generally known as Fritz Syberg, (28 July 1862, Fåborg – 20 December 1939, Kerteminde) was a Danish painter and illustrator, one of the or Funen Painters (''Fynboerne'') living and working on the island of Funen. Biography Syberg, from a poor background in Fåborg, first served a house painter's apprenticeship under Syrak Hansen, the father of fellow artist Peter Hansen before attending the Copenhagen Technical School in 1882 where Holger Grønvold taught him drawing. After a short period at the Danish Academy (spring 1884), he attended the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler (1885–1891) where he was the first of the Fynboerne to study under Kristian Zahrtmann. Johannes Larsen
Johannes Larsen (27 December 1867 – 20 December 1961) was a Danish nature painter. Biography Larsen was born in Kerteminde on Funen, Denmark. He was the son of Jeppe Andreas L. and Vilhelmine Christine Bless. His father was a merchant. Larsen studied art at the Free School in Copenhagen under Kristian Zahrtmann (1843–1917) in the 1880s. There he met other painters from Funen, notably Fritz Syberg (1862–1939) and Peter Marius Hansen (1868-1928), both from the southern port of Faaborg, and the Funish Painters group (''Fynboerne'') was born. They went on to create an art colony that influenced many Danish and Swedish artists and brought them success. In 1898, he was married to the painter Alhed Maria Warberg (1872–1927).
